NYFW Trend Takeaway: Winter White
If there was one look we noticed over and over again during New York fashion week, it was winter white. There were so many winter white outfits that rival editors and buyers showed up wearing the same thing on the same day. Look closely at these photos, and you’ll see some even include another person wearing all white in the background – that’s how prevalent it was.
The all-white clothing we’ve seen recently started as a signal of solidarity with suffragettes, an indication of the collective power of female voters. In D.C., female senators wore all white to the State of the Union speech, and in Hollywood, Billie Eilish chose an all-white Chanel outfit for the Oscars. In New York, it may be a reaction to global warming and the extraordinarily mild temperatures we’ve had this winter. Or it may just be fashion: white is certainly a flexible neutral, no matter what the weather.
So if there are any last minute items you want to snap up before all the spring merchandise comes into stores, make it a white or cream-colored coat or jacket in any style. If you really want to double down on this trend, get some white boots or sneakers as well. Both will last into the spring… if it ever gets cold again. (more…)
Laura Comolli at Rebecca Minkoff FW2015
Winter white is also a great way to transition into spring. Blogger Laura Comolli of Purses and I dared to bare her ankles at the Rebecca Minkoff show in New York, mixing white cotton pants with a fur-trimmed eggshell white coat and colorful Paola Cademartori bag.

Lauren Remington Platt at Jason Wu FW2015
A beautiful, crisp look on Lauren Remington Platt outside the Jason Wu show – and not the first time we’ve seen white boots for winter this fashion season.
The Return of the Turtleneck: Linda Tol at Ann Demeulemeester SS2015
The return of the humble turtleneck as a fashion It item never ceases to surprise, whether it’s Sharon Stone wearing one to the Oscars in 1996 or a whole new generation of fashion enthusiasts embracing them now. Trendsetter Linda Tol incorporated a turtleneck sweater into a winter white outfit outside the Ann Demeulemeester show. Added bonus: they’re actually warm.
Winter White: Eva Chen at Derek Lam SS2015
New York women are not afraid to pile on the layers when the mercury drops. Case in point: Eva Chen during last year’s freezing cold fashion week, bundled up in winter white and silver sneakers, still looking chic.

The fabulous Hanneli Mustaparta arrived at 3.1 Phillip Lim in the designer’s white and blue look.

Miroslava Duma at Altuzarra
I loved this chic snow bunny look on Miroslava Duma yesterday at the Altuzarra show in New York. This was her second outfit of the day in bright optic white, a great winter color that signals that spring is around the corner.
Winter White, Outside Prabal Gurung
An outfit in crisp winter white cuts a clean line against the blue sky outside the Prabal Gurung show.
Natasha Goldenberg at Diane von Furstenberg

Winter White, Outside Lacoste
Loved the bright optic white we saw on several guests during the fashion week season. Best of all, it works for spring too when this snow finally ends.
Lisa Marie Fernandez in the Tuileries
Another version of winter white is bright, optic white, which looked particularly sharp on designer Lisa Marie Fernandez at Valentino.
White Grecian Dress and Flocked Coat, Outside Chloe
A gorgeous white Grecian dress and white sleeveless flocked coat made up this look in head-to-toe white outside Monday’s Chloe show. Very arresting, particularly in the saturated light of the Tuileries.
