Striped Dress, 10th Street, July 2020
All the cool kids are wearing sneakers with sundresses or shorts these days – a great way to beat the heat while moving about the city. Here are two breezy looks on 10th Street last week.
Summer Stripes: Dina Cassama and Katya Akuma Outside Elie Saab FW2018
Color Play: Striped Dress and Red Heels, Astor Place, April 2018
Spotted in Astor Place: someone who obviously has an eye for color – even the coffee cup sleeve picks up on the red in the rest of her outfit. The Blick Art Supply bag may be the ultimate artsy accessory.
Sunny Outlook: Arizona Muse at Stella McCartney FW2018
Model Arizona Muse emerged from the car into a swarm of photographers outside the Stella McCartney show. Did she remember me from the Paris and New York shows years ago (see below posts)? I don’t know, but at least she looked my way. Very nice!
Traffic Stop: Elina Halimi at Balmain SS2018
Elina Halimi walked by les flics in Balenciaga shoes and a Louis Vuitton bag that blended right into the scene outside the Balmain show in Paris.
Rainbow Brite: Linda Fargo at Art Basel Miami 2017
Linda Fargo arrived at Art Basel Miami fashionably clad as usual. She doubled down on the rainbow trend with a striped top and colorful earrings topped off the YSL heart-shaped sunglasses that have been so popular this year. The white loafers are also a nice touch.
Over the Rainbow: Lexie Kaplan at Art Basel Miami
Rainbow stripes are brightening up this winter, both in Miami Beach and in NYC. Artist Lexie Kaplan of the Kaplan twins wore a glittery rainbow look by Ashish to the DuJour party in Miami.
TBT: Edie Campbell at Louis Vuitton SS2014
Today in models speaking out: Edie Campbell penned an open letter to WWD, questioning the fashion community’s response to sexual abuse in the industry. As the New York Times has also pointed out, is the problem really limited to just one photographer, Terry Richardson? Really? Campbell also brings up the issue of male models who have suffered abuse – something we hear much less about. Definitely worth a read – and worth considering if victims can start naming names, as has happened in almost every other creative industry now, without fear of getting blacklisted.
Here’s a throwback Thursday pic of Campbell in 2013 after she closed the Louis Vuitton show covered in Stephen Sprouse-style body paint. If I remember correctly, she actually flew back to London immediately after the show still covered in body paint.
Stripes on Stripes: Alex Badia at Michael Kors SS2018
The trend of mixing prints is not going anywhere anytime soon, especially in menswear. Alex Badia mixed stripes with stripes with plaid at the Michael Kors show.
Out of the Shadows: Veronika Heilbrunner at Gucci SS2018
A great striped Gucci suit on Veronika Heilbrunner at the show. Unmistakably Gucci!
Stripe Two: Alex Badia at Willy Chavarria SS2018
One for the New York Times: Alex Badia took a cue from the European men’s runways and mixed patterns and prints during men’s fashion week in NYC, this time in two types of pinstripes at the Willy Chavaria show.
Asia Burris at the Met Museum Young Members Night 2017
Loved this striped jumpsuit on Asia Burris of Saint Heron at the Met Museum Young Members party. With its bunting-like pleats and folds, it would be great for a 4th of July party too.
Business Casual: Alex Badia at Valentino Resort 2018
A good example of how sportswear is infiltrating businesswear on Alex Badia, who mixed a bomber jacket with tailored trousers. White sneakers have also been spotted on men in suits this summer.
Wearing the Pants: Olympia Scarry at the Whitney Museum Gala 2017
Pantsuits and jumpers have been a popular sartorial choice for women during the spring benefit season this year. Artist Olympia Scarry wore a military-inspired set with a flash of pink.
Tropicana: Olivia Palermo at Valentino Resort 2018
The always-on-trend Olivia Palermo wore a satin bomber jacket with tropical prints and a pop of yellow to the Valentino resort show yesterday in New York. She mixed it with a striped top in a clever styling twist.
