January Jones in Atelier Versace
January Jones, seen here exiting the Mark Hotel for the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala, looked stunning in a yellow Atelier Versace gown with a structured bodice and peplum. The necklace is Cartier.
Met Gala: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Burberry
Model and Transformers star Rosie Huntington-Whiteley left the Mark Hotel last night en route to the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute gala. The face of Burberry Body, she naturally wore Burberry – a long, beaded bronze and black striped gown with long sleeves. It was such an elegant look, made more so by the classic updo and Irene Neuwirth earrings. And the man on her arm who’s photographing the crowd of photographers? That’s Mario Testino.
Leopard Print Jumpsuit, Outside Haider Ackermann
Loved this abstract leopard print jumpsuit outside the Haider Ackermann show in Paris. She’s taking a lot of fashion risks, and it all pays off. The red platforms and oversize sunglasses balance out this big pattern so the focus is still on the girl, not just her clothes.
Aline Weber at Stella McCartney
It seems like April showers have finally caught up with us, but don’t let the weather be a downer in the fashion department. Top model Aline Weber captivated the crowd outside the Stella McCartney show with her free spirited style. Here she brightens up a gloomy Paris day with lots of boho layers – a crushed velvet blazer, mesh sweater, gypsy skirt and scarf sash.
P.S. Sorry for the watermark, but I’ve had problems with people taking and altering my photos of models!
Taylor Tomasi Hill in Black and White Stripes
Bill Cunningham’s column this weekend reminded me of this photo from the Louis Vuitton show – Taylor Tomasi Hill in graphic black and white stripe pants. It’s a particularly daring look made even more so with a black leather corset under that jacket. Black and white is perfect for this time of year, when we’re finally starting to transition to the all white looks of summer.
Geraldine Saglio at Rochas
Here’s another example of how to wear a black biker jacket in spring: pair it with white jeans and a bright sweater, as Geraldine Saglio of French Vogue did at Rochas. Classic and stylish.
Liz Cabral at Rochas
When spring weather turns gloomy, it’s tempting to revert to your fall clothes. This isn’t necessary a bad thing, though, if you pack a graphic punch as Flare editor Liz Cabral does here. Pairing the black motorcycle jacket with a bright red dress keeps it warm but seasonally appropriate – and the snakeskin boots usher in the spring.
Also, that’s a Tommy Ton for Club Monaco bag – big enough to hold a laptop!
Phil Oh and Susie Lau at Rochas
These two friends are of one mind when it comes to color: the more, the better! Both Phil Oh of Street Peeper and Susie Lau of Style Bubble are masters at colorblocking. Neither outfit is too clashy though: note that the colors repeat in variations of purple on him and green on her.
Jacquelyn Jablonski at Sonia Rykiel
It was so terrible to learn yesterday that iconic designer Sonia Rykiel has been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for the past 15 years (story in WWD). She has continued on very bravely with her work, drawing quite a stylish crowd to her most recent show in the Tuileries. Here, model Jacquelyn Jablonski exits the show at dusk in a camel coat, white blouse, scarf draped just so, and leather leggings. The acid-green bag with her initials on the tag is the crowning touch.
Ginger in a Vintage Skirt
If skirts are a must-have this spring, vintage skirts are even more appealing, because they’re charming, timeless and usually one of a kind. Take Ginger, a Scottish girl who went to several of the Milan shows. Here she wears a vintage YSL skirt that she scored at a secondhand store for “six quid” – not bad!
Kate King at Alberta Ferretti
Model Kate King wore a sheer pale pink skirt exiting the Alberta Ferretti show. Love the color and the vintage-y style.
Tamu McPherson at Marni
I loved Tamu’s colorful outfit at the Marni show. The All the Pretty Birds photo blogger wore a Suno dress, red Paul Smith coat, blue Gianvito Rossi shoes (more blue suede shoes!), and pink Karen Walker sunglasses. Bright colors and patterns like hers are a great way to celebrate spring.
Pink Trenchcoat, Outside Dior
This warm weather has me craving color. Here’s one way to wear it that’s both fun and polished: a fuchsia trenchcoat layered over a royal blue dress with a matching hat. Her lipstick also matches the trench exactly, but the shoes are a neutral nude to keep the whole look from going over the top.
Emmanuelle Alt at Sonia Rykiel
French Vogue editor Emmanuelle Alt has been wearing white jeans year round for an effortlessly sophisticated look. At the Sonia Rykiel show in Paris, she paired them with a luxe leopard print jacket: high-low fashion at its best.
She has also been a big influence in beauty. Many of the fall shows were styled with models with very little makeup and loose, natural hair, à la Emmanuelle.
