Red Blazer and White Jeans, Costume National
I have been neglecting to post photos of the men of fashion week, but many were impeccably dressed, like this guy. This is how the spring color trend can play out beautifully for men: a bright red blazer paired with a purple v-neck and white jeans (which many men are already wearing now) and luxe leather accessories. Perfection.
Natasha Poly and Sasha Pivovarova at Chanel
To clarify: Not all models off duty dress fabulously. The standard uniform for the past couple years has been biker jackets, skinny jeans and biker boots – sexy at first, until it got boring. This season several of the top girls are breaking the mold, wearing more layers and texture, mixing up skirts and pants and interesting coats. Natasha Poly and Sasha Pivovarova, just off the Chanel runway, exemplify the look that Lagerfeld showed for the Fall 2011 collection, as Style.com‘s Tim Blanks put it: “mixing the street with enough high fashion fantasy to make the result seem rich and strange.”
Stella McCartney Skirt, Tuileries
The Tuileries during Paris fashion week can be like a fashion magazine come to life – especially when you see guests wearing clothes just featured in the latest Vogue. This beautiful silk lemon-patterned Stella McCartney skirt looks even better in person. Love how she ties the whole thing together with unabashed color.
Sarah Rutson at Chloe
Fashion bellwether and Lane Crawford buyer Sarah Rutson has been wearing a lot of stripes, and you know what that means: everyone else will be wearing a lot of stripes very soon. This chic outfit combines two stripe patterns, fishnets and lace-up heels in Rutson’s signature mix of sporty and sexy.
Addendum: She is in Prada SS 2011 – though Rutson actually improved on the runway styling by mixing up the colors of the jacket and skirt!
Vika Gazinskaya at Viktor & Rolf
One of fashion’s daredevils, Russian designer Vika Gazinskaya has rarely been seen in a boring outfit. She plays with line, color, form and material, easily mixing retro – in this case, peep-toe pumps and a silk scarf tied around her hair – with cutting edge – the suit fashioned entirely out of sweatshirt jersey.
Girl in Khaki Pants, Outside Louis Vuitton
A lot of young people come to the Paris shows just to stand outside and be part of the mix. I thought this girl had great personal style with the khakis, the lace-up boots, the floral shirt under a thick cableknit cardigan and the necklace that is actually just an ordinary housekey on a chain.
Navy Blue With Polka Dots, Outside Louis Vuitton
Such a cute retro look, again in navy, with a below-the-knee pleated wool crepe skirt and jacket, accessorized with a white cap and navy envelope pouch at the belt. The polka dot blouse is also a nod to Louis Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs, who featured polka dots prominently in his namesake fall collection in New York.
Sailor Stripes, Outside Louis Vuitton
Keep an eye out for this woman, because she attracted the attention of many street style photographers outside the Louis Vuitton show in Paris. The look is effortlessly cool, even laid back: sailor striped shirt paired with a double breasted navy blazer, white pants and blue “flatform” shoes. And yet everything hits the right note. I like that her hair is a bit mussed – it keeps the whole thing from looking too done.
Addendum: These are the Prada flatforms that are getting so much flak from non-admirers. They actually look perfectly good in real life.
Susie Lau at Lanvin
Style Bubble’s Susie Lau, aka Susie Bubble, was beautifully and quixotically attired all week, often opting for emerging designers or vintage when everyone else went for the big established names. At Lanvin in the Tuileries she wore a palette of grays, pinks and blues, spring’s new neutrals.
Pink Hat and Fur Coat, Outside Lanvin
First off, the hat is great. How often do you see this wide-brimmed Australia outback style hat in the color pink? And paired with this embellished shaggy fur coat, leggings and ’50s style heels, the whole thing cuts a beautiful silhouette. She’s about to ride off into the Paris fashion week sunset. (more…)
Zig Zag Tunic, Outside Zac Posen
A zigzag tunic, turban and fuchsia lipstick all add up to a modern day femme fatale outside the Zac Posen show in Paris. The turban is actually an intricate hat of woven, black lacquered straw – detail shot after the jump. (more…)
Black and White, Outside Chanel
One of my favorite things about French fashion is that it is often art for art’s sake. Do you need to put on a black tulle headpiece before you go out in the morning? No. Do you need to wear black and white from head to toe to summon up the essence of Coco Chanel outside the Chanel show? Yes. And P.S., I’m not sure that this she is actually a she, but she’s amazing either way.
Emmanuelle Alt at Valentino
Love this look. It’s the perfect mix of high and low, with the beautifully tailored zippered jacket and the laid back plaid shirt and faded jeans. Very rock and roll, very Emmanuelle Alt.
White Grecian Dress and Flocked Coat, Outside Chloe
A gorgeous white Grecian dress and white sleeveless flocked coat made up this look in head-to-toe white outside Monday’s Chloe show. Very arresting, particularly in the saturated light of the Tuileries.
Red Silk Tunic and Pants, Outside Costume National
A fabulous pop of fuchsia-red silk mixes nicely with the dove gray fur coat in this study in of color and texture. Très chic.
