Fe Fendi at the Central Park Conservancy Luncheon
Fe Fendi arrived at the Central Park Conservancy Luncheon in a bright red silk dress with laser cut scalloped ruffles, matching umbrella and red flower fascinator. It was a beautiful splash of color in the rain.
Alessandra Bush at the Central Park Conservancy Luncheon
Alessandra Bush arrived at the Central Park Conservancy Luncheon looking chic in classic black and white, including a sheer black hat adorned with feathers and rosettes, a black feather skirt and pearls.
Sandra Lee at the Central Park Conservancy Luncheon
New York’s new first lady of sorts, Governor Andrew Cuomo’s girlfriend Sandra Lee, exited a limo wearing white and a towering hat in the shape of huge pale flower. Though controversial in the food world, she’s quite a hit fashion wise. Full shot after the jump. (more…)
Lady in Yellow, Central Park Conservancy Luncheon
The weather may not have been cooperating, but that didn’t stop hundreds of fashionable ladies from attending the annual Central Park Conservancy Luncheon this morning. Traditionally, the outdoor luncheon calls for hats, a sartorial choice that seemed to be embraced with even more fervor this year on the heels of the royal wedding.
Most New Yorkers would be tempted to put on all black clothing in dreary weather, but not here. The women arrived in colorful suits and dresses, like this lady in a bright yellow suit, green bag and umbrella and a headpiece of flowers and red, gold and green ribbon.
Addendum: She is Central Park supporter Virginia Redfield
Nicholas Kirkwood Shoes on Stephanie LaCava
I received a press release about Miranda Kerr’s fabulous shoes at the Met Costume Gala this morning and recognized them from Paris fashion week, where they also appeared on the feet of style star Stephanie LaCava in the black version. Here they are, by Nicholas Kirkwood – totally lust-worthy. Full shot of Ms. LaCava after the jump. (more…)
Colorful Hair, Outside Chloe
Fashion has been so centered on clothing, bags and shoes for the past few years that it was easy to forget that there’s a whole other part of oneself to dress up: one’s head! The parade of magnificent hats at the royal wedding was a great reminder of the fashion statement women can make beyond clothing. These colorful braided hairstyles on two women outside the Chloe show in Paris may not exactly be hats, but these plus the bright fuchsia and red lipstick have the same effect of refocusing the gaze. Best of all, unlike skirts, hats and colorful hairdos can be completely outrageous and still be socially acceptable.
Striped Maxi Dress, The Bowery
Longer hemlines are definitely not translating into dowdier looks for this season. Jersey maxi dresses are one popular interpretation of longer hemlines for a sporty, sexy daytime outfit. Love how she’s mixed this striped maxi dress with bright accessories: a yellow bag and red belt.
Vintage 70s Jeans, NoLita
Love the highwaisted jeans on this model off duty in NoLita. She told me they’re vintage from the 70s. Highwaisted jeans can be hard to pull off, but they’re really cute paired with a black sheer top, long sweater and yellow bag – detail shot after the jump. (more…)
Khaki Dress and Cat Eye Glasses, Prince Street
Such a cool look on this woman outside Olive’s in Soho. A khaki dress gets some edge from the black leather piping and laces, and the cat eye sunglasses and red lipstick compliment the late ’60s style pixie haircut. On her feet, one of the new trends I appreciate the most: flats.
Navy Romper With Belt, Prince Street
Anyone willing to bare her legs in yesterday’s 80-degree weather brought out the shorts, especially rompers. This model-esque woman in NoLita sported a navy blue short shorts romper with a wide caramel-colored belt, black sandals and cross-body bag, perfectly mixed and accessorized.
Buckle Wedge Heels, Soho Steps
Absolutely adored her wedge heels with buckles on Prince Street yesterday.
Graphic Print Mini, By the F Station
Long, flowing maxi skirts may be all the rage this spring, but let’s face it: if a girl’s got the legs, why give up the mini? Here, a graphic print mini gets paired with a cropped black biker jacket, long white cardigan and black tights – the quintessential day-to-evening outfit for the Lower East Side.
Women and Men in Hats, Easter Parade
From the bespoke to the cartoonish, there were lots of hats at yesterday’s Easter Parade on Fifth Avenue, where the clouds suddenly parted and we were treated to brilliant sunshine for a few hours. Above, on the way to the parade in a hat festooned with Peeps and jellybeans. More hats on men and women after the jump. (more…)
Natalia Vadianova at Louis Vuitton
Natalia Vadianova exited the Louis Vuitton show in a gorgeous black velvet coat embellished with silk and sequin lapels. The motorcycle boots are such a departure they look almost accidental – but keep in mind this was the last day of the whole fashion month – high heels were a tall order.
Military Jacket, One Day Without Shoes
Despite the no-shoes mandate, many of the volunteers at the recent One Day Without Shoes charity event still dressed quite fashionably. Military jackets continue to be a great transitional option each spring, a practical outer layer worn here with a Marc by Marc Jacobs bag and striped sailor top.
