Lady Gaga, CFDA Awards 2011 Red Carpet
Needless to say, the most anticipated arrival of last night’s CFDA Awards was Lady Gaga. What would she wear? By Gaga standards, her custom-made black Thierry Mugler dress was on the tame side – form fitting, with a huge tulle train – but the studded bodice was pure Gaga. She also pulled off the impressive feat of walking the red carpet in 24-inch platform wedges – with grace, all the way.
Colorblocking, Houston Street
Love the contrasting colors in this look: garnet red with cobalt blue finished off with lipstick in fuchsia.
Blazer and Shorts, Houston Street
Mixing work with play in an outfit that combines faded blue shorts and shirt with a sleek black blazer and lots of bracelets.
Red Dress, Houston Street
A red dress gets accessorized with a straw hat for a great spring to summer transitional look.
Yellow Bike, Houston Street
Bikes remain ones of the best warm weather accessories, like this one in bright yellow. Also note the denim jacket and pink lipstick, two more big favorites of the season.
Mother Daughter Duo, Central Park Conservancy
Two great looks on a mother-daughter duo at the Central Park Conservancy luncheon.
City Shorts, Chrystie Street
Once just for suburban preps and tennis players, shorts have become a standard part of the urban wardrobe – even for work, if you can swing it. Black linen shorts are particularly versatile, paired here with a black and white polka dot blouse, black socks, tattoos and oxfords. Bermuda redux?
Military Green Dress and Hat, Central Park Conservancy
Love how this flattering “drab” green color has transcended military looks and become a new neutral, here in a beautifully tailored sheath dress and hat with a green satin bow. It’s especially smart when paired with red gloves and bag.
Summer Layers, Outside the Parsons Fashion Show
This struck me as the perfect outfit for summer travel: a lightweight white tunic top with chunky necklace over a colorful pink minidress (which could be its own outfit on another day/night). The stacked heel sandals balance it all out – and you can walk in them.
Eric Javits Hats, Central Park Conservancy
Love this look in vivid greens and blues on this pair at the Central Park Conservancy Luncheon. The straw hats are both Eric Javits.
Cream Colored Suit and Hat, Central Park Conservancy
The few men who attended the Central Park Conservancy luncheon last week dressed the part, like this guest in a beautiful cream colored suit and hat with a pale pink tie and pink pocket square. He’s carrying his dress shoes in that plastic bag – a practical choice on a rainy day.
All Black, Central Park Conservancy Luncheon
No matter what the season, occasion or current fashion, New Yorkers will wear black. It still confers instant elegance on the wearer, as with this guest at the Central Park Conservancy Luncheon last week, in black from head to toe.
70s Jeans and PS1 Bag, Parsons Fashion Show
This outfit looks so sleek and classic you could almost forget it includes one of the trendier items of spring 2011, 70s wide legged, high-waisted jeans. In fact this is a great way to wear them: with design standards like Ray Ban Wayfarers, a white silk blouse and that other new classic: the Proenza Schouler PS1 bag in caramel leather.
Nautical Stripes, Mulberry Street
Love the nautical influences in his outfit, from the stripes to the cabled sweater to the khakis and boat shoes. The other good thing about this trend: it’s not just stylish but supremely comfortable for running errands around the city.
Slideshow: Best Hats, Central Park Conservancy Luncheon
We may not have a royal wedding here in New York, but we do have the this ladies luncheon in Central Park, which brings out hundreds of women in elaborate hats every year. Here are some of the best.
