Liz Cabral in an Orange Coat, Outside Derek Lam
Flare‘s Fashion Director Liz Cabral wore a fluorescent orange Joe Fresh coat to Sunday’s Derek Lam show. Bright, fluorescent pops of color have been a continuing motif this season, either as accessories mixed with black or neutral colors or as one big statement piece, like this fantastic coat.
Sarah Rutson at Rag & Bone
Sarah Rutson, fashion director of Hong Kong’s Lane Crawford, wore green silk Dries van Noten pants and a black leather jacket to Friday’s Rag & Bone show. It’s a great example of a glamorous, versatile day-to-night outfit, a necessity for fashion week days that don’t end until 10pm or later.
Hamish Bowles at Victoria Beckham
The ever-dapper Hamish Bowles emerged from Sunday’s Victoria Beckham show in a deep blue double breasted suit, moss green scarf and light gray overcoat. He’s never been one to shy away from color.
June Ambrose at Hervé Leger
Super stylist June Ambrose wore a vibrant color-blocked look of blue, green and purple to Saturday’s Hervé Leger show at Lincoln Center. What a way to make an impact.
All White, Outside Theyskens' Theory
On the opposite end of the spectrum: all white, which should be a big look for spring. She isn’t wearing a pantsuit but a combination of white jacket, tee and jeans for a more relaxed interpretation of this monochromatic look.
Arizona Muse at Jason Wu
Model-of-the-moment Arizona Muse emerged from the Jason Wu show in hair and makeup – and a black coat with leather edging.
Jenna Lyons at Prabal Gurung
Jenna Lyons looked fabulous at Saturday’s Prabal Gurung show. She combined a jean jacket with beautiful brushed silk colorblock pants and electric blue suede heels. The key accessories? Her glasses and a clip-on keychain. This as down-to-earth as high fashion gets.
Ruby Aldridge, Outside Milk Studios
Ruby Aldridge wore inky black from head to toe on the way to a fitting at Milk Studios. The leather jacket is tough but so beautifully tailored. Obviously she’s got the looks to be one of the top models of NY Fashion Week, but the real reason to love her is for her personality: funny, rebellious and super cool.
Kate Lanphear at Alexander Wang
Here’s another look in all black: Kate Lanphear in a fur trim coat and Louboutin lace-up boots, after the Alexander Wang show. Though so many designers are moving towards color, especially for spring, all black will always be a thing in fashion. It’s just iconic, and Lanphear is one of the women who made it that way.
Stephanie LaCava and Bryanboy
Here’s another stylish duo for you: Stephanie LaCava and Bryanboy at Jason Wu. Though fashion week can be grueling, there are many happy reunions going on at the shows. These two friends and street style stars are particularly adept at wearing color and prints.
David Thielebeule and Treena Lombardo at Jason Wu
These two Allure editors are so stylish separately but even more stylish together. David Thielebeule and Treena Lombardo both wore expertly layered looks to yesterday’s Jason Wu show. Love all the texture on him and the play on proportions in her outfit.
White Pom Pom Hat and Fur Coat, Outside Costello Tagliapietro
Here’s another adorable look from Day One of NY Fashion Week, which makes me wonder: Is cute the new edgy? A knit pom pom hat adds a playful finish to a high-low look of fur coat, button down shirt and Givenchy bag.
Addendum: She is Violaine Bernard.
White Jeans and Plaid Coat, Outside BCBG
Garance Doré tweeted yesterday that her surprise winter staple has been white jeans. Indeed, if Michael Kors had anything to do with it, we would all wear white jeans all the time. Here they look great and springy with a colorful plaid coat and red bag, outside the BCBG show at Lincoln Center.
Monika Chiang FW 2012
There are new designers, and then there are new designers whose clothes are loved by models – and God bless you if you fall into the latter camp. Monika Chiang’s clothes are already a wardrobe staple for several Hollywood celebs – her first stores opened out in L.A. Now they’re a favorite of models like Elettra Wiedemann, who wore several of Chiang’s designs during a recent Refinery 29 photo shoot and at yesterday’s presentation in her official role as muse for the fall collection.
The fall collection was notable for its shoes, which ranged from flats to wildly studded high tops to death-defying stilettos made with a gilded metal spike. Jackets and vests made of fur, suede, wool felt and leather – or often a combination of two – were particularly luscious yet practical for city living. (more…)
Opening Ceremony x Glamour Kitty Sweater, Outside BCBG
Welcome to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, aka New York Fashion Week! This adorable but chic kitty sweater was the centerpiece of one of my favorite outfits of Day One. It’s actually a collaboration between Glamour Magazine and Opening Ceremony, to be sold at Opening Ceremony on February 15th. Here it’s expertly mixed with a flowy white shirt dress, trench and bright red bag. As a cat person, I have been obsessed with it ever since OC previewed the design.
