Natasha Zinko at Chanel Couture SS2015
Jewelry designer Natasha Zinko wore an amazingly flamboyant Chanel coat trimmed with white feathers to the couture show in Paris, mixing it with over the knee boots and cut off denim shorts. Wow.
Elina Halimi at Chanel Couture SS2015
Loved the graphic punch of this look on Elina Halimi: red, green and black and white stripes. The accessories are great too, especially the covetable Louis Vuitton bag.
Black and White: Anya Ziourova at Chanel Couture SS2015
Monochrome: Christina Pitanguy at Dior Couture SS2015
This beautiful dove gray is a favorite color of mine, and it looks especially good done from head to (almost) toe in Dior. Christina Pitanguy created a nice bit of contrast by finishing off the gray midi skirt with forest green boots.
’70s Vibe: Magda Laguinge at Schiaparelli SS2015
Model Magda Laguinge headed out from the Schiaparelli show in a fur coat and bell bottom jeans. This wasn’t the only time during couture that we saw her in a ’70s look – cute and boho.
Paris Couture Week for @nytimesfashion
I just got back from Paris, where I covered street style outside the Paris S/S 2015 couture shows for the New York Times Styles section – check out the slideshow of all my street style photos for them here! All of these photos appeared on Instagram at @nytimesfashion, where the Styles section publishes up-to-the minute fashion photography from around the world – definitely an account worth following. If you missed it, you can also follow me on Instagram at @gastrochic for yet more street style and food photos.
New in this street style slideshow is my photo of Carla Bruni attending one of the shows. The former first lady of France wore skin tight leather pants on the first day of Paris couture… what a way to make an entrance!
Sarah Ann Murray at Schiaparelli Couture SS2015
Sarah Ann Murray of The Rake magazine layered a plaid cape over a plaid jacket at the Schiaparelli couture show in Paris, to great visual effect. And also practical warmth, as mentioned in today’s New York Times Thursday Styles, where my photo of Irene Kim in layered coats illustrates the point!
Another cool detail we saw several times on Paris couture week attendees: decorative leather buckles at the neck of jackets and capes.
The Return of the Turtleneck: Linda Tol at Ann Demeulemeester SS2015
The return of the humble turtleneck as a fashion It item never ceases to surprise, whether it’s Sharon Stone wearing one to the Oscars in 1996 or a whole new generation of fashion enthusiasts embracing them now. Trendsetter Linda Tol incorporated a turtleneck sweater into a winter white outfit outside the Ann Demeulemeester show. Added bonus: they’re actually warm.
Model Off Duty: Grace Mahary at Rick Owens SS2015
We had a surprise sighting of model Grace Mahary outside the Rick Owens show, which she attended as a guest of the designer. Take a cue from her and go for leather pants in this cold weather. If there was ever a time for them, it’s now!
Olivia Palermo at Maison Margiela SS2015
Always ahead of the curve, Olivia Palermo attended the Maison Margiela show in the fall. Love the combination of a black peplum jacket with a leather pencil skirt.
Virginia Smith at Maison Margiela SS2015
Look for more graphic prints like this one seen at the Maison Margiela SS2015 show on Vogue’s Virginia Smith. John Galliano debuted as Maison Margiela’s new head designer with a couture collection today that has received very positive reviews.
Natalya Bogacheva at Rick Owens SS2015
Moi, je ne suis pas Charlie.
I am not nearly as daring or provocative as the cartoonists and editors behind Charlie Hebdo. But like many I am drawn to the provocateurs. Artists and free thinkers are indelibly associated with the city of Paris and should be always. In the world of fashion they would be the punks or those who dare to wear the crazy things no one else would. At the Rick Owens show, Natalya Bogacheva was one of them, donning Thom Browne’s rabbit ears hat and mask to twirl in front of the Eiffel Tower. Vive la Paris.
Karla Martinez at Comme des Garcons
W Mag’s Karla Martinez looked impeccably stylish in a great Celine scarf outside the Comme des Garçons show in Paris. I love how she layered different colors and textures to make a unified whole.
