Bright Colors, Bushwick, April 2021
Bright colors are popping up not just on tulips but on people on the streets of NYC – a trend we also saw in some of the bright, monochromatic menswear looks at last night’s Oscars. It seems to signal unbridled optimism after a long, cold winter.

Lynn Yaeger, Greenwich Village, June 2020
It was so great to run into my Greenwich Village neighbor Lynn Yaeger on 10th Street. As luck would have it, she was one of the last people I saw in New York City before I fled in mid-March. She and Michael Musto were strolling down University Place on a warm spring night, and I spotted her as I came out of the Knickerbocker Grill for what would be my last dine-in restaurant meal for God knows how long. Then she was one of the first people I saw on the street when I came back to the neighborhood.
As you can see, she is not sitting around in sweatpants, but maintaining the same level of style and fabulosity as in the Before Times. She cleverly repurposed a silk scarf as a mask, something we should all do with all those old scarves. Underneath, she is still wearing her signature lipstick. And no, she never fled the city. Now that’s a New Yorker.

Green Layers, Outside Sies Marjan FW2020
Such a great and individualistic look outside New York’s Sies Marjan show, where you can always find interesting people. Love the accessories and her tone-on-tone layering of different greens, a color we saw a lot of during fashion month.
Sunny Day, After the Deep Freeze, Lafayette Street 2019
Mustard Yellow Scarf, Soho 2018
Another one for Footwear Plus. Loved her clog-type platform boots, plus the mustard yellow scarf. We saw so much of these saturated ’70s colors like mustard yellow and burgundy in NYC this fall and early winter. I wouldn’t be surprised if the trend continues for spring, replacing the pastels of yesteryear.
Prints Charming: Jenke Ahmed Tailly at Viktor & Rolf FW2018
When matchy-matchy really works, as seen on top stylist Jenke Ahmed Tailly at the Viktor & Rolf show.

Plaid on Plaid: Robert Ferrell at Margiela FW2017
It’s really beginning to feel like fall in NYC, which makes me wish for all the rich colors and fabrics of the season. One for the New York Times and one of my favorite menswear looks from Paris – Robert Ferrell in a plaid overcoat with plaid bag. Love the combination of colors and patterns.
Going Green: Details at Gucci FW2017
A look in green silk with florals at the Gucci show – beautifully put together, especially the scarf tied at the wrist.
Luxe Life: Lauren Santo Domingo at Calvin Klein FW2017
A luxe shearling coat and silk bandana scarf on Lauren Santo Domingo at Calvin Klein.
Bundle Up: Taylor Tomasi Hill at NYFW FW 2016
Flashback to last winter’s deep freeze: if in doubt, pile on the layers, as Taylor Tomasi Hill did outside Milk Studios during last February’s New York Fashion Week.
