Michelle Harper at DKNY
Michelle Harper wore this exquisite belted brocade coat to fend off wet weather at the DKNY show. The cat eye sunglasses and red lipstick are the icing on the cake.
Black and Blue, Outside Jason Wu
Crappy weather – we get a lot of it in New York. And every time it sleets sideways I can’t help but think of other times we’ve encountered similarly crappy weather, as at the Jason Wu show during NY Fashion Week. One guest managed it with style by mixing a navy coat with black leather pants, silver high tops and a baseball cap. The orange vest underneath her coat is a nice pop of color – and great for added warmth.
Michelle Elie at Roberto Cavalli
Michelle Elie of Garage Magazine was a bright pop of orange and red color on a gloomy day outside the Roberto Cavalli show. Close-up of her Miu Miu platforms, after the jump.
Caroline Issa at DKNY
Caroline Issa wore a green fur with a bright orange lining to the DKNY show. The coat is actually by a Central Saint Martins student. The streak of color at the lapel went with the streak of blue mascara on her eyes and red lipstick – see the beauty shot below.
Michelle Harper at Jason Wu
Michelle Harper has the most amazing personal style that always seems to reference vintage, though her clothes are often by up-and-coming American designers. She’s like a 1920s flapper who’s been airlifted to modern times. At the Jason Wu show, she wore a black fur coat and a black turban with red lipstick, perfect for blowing a kiss in the snow.
Flared Skirt, Outside Gucci
It’s all too easy to fall into the jeans/pants rut when cold weather sets in, but remember: there are some great options in skirts. I’m especially loving skater and flared skirts like this one, which are so flattering and versatile. Pair it with black tights and a blazer and it’s instantly winterized.
Candice Lake at Chanel
I loved the combination of colors and textures on Aussie photographer and blogger Candice Lake at Chanel. The Hockley LondonĀ fur is a nice flash of cheerful yellow on an overcast day, and the black velvet skirt is the perfect counterpart. Plus: red lipstick is the way to go with a bright coat.

Polo Street Chic: House Photographer in All White
Here’s another Gatsby-esque look for you: the house photographer of the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in a white dress and brown oxfords. Also love the boater hat as a substitute for the ubiquitous straw fedora. Expect 1920s chic to reign this summer as we near the release of The Great Gatsby.
White Maxi Skirt, Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic
I liked the bohemian look of this flared white cotton maxi skirt with a slim black tank top at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. She’s paired it with red ballet flats and a headband made of faux cherries. I’ve been seeing several whimsical headbands like this around lately. They’re often made by the wearer.
Black Lace Party Dress, Parsons MFA Exhibit
The little black dress is great for a party no matter what the time of year. Designer Jade Rozenbroek wore a lace dress by COS with polka dot tights to her show at the First Eighteen, the Parsons MFA exhibit. Lace also plays a part in her designs for Jack & Jade, pictured after the jump.
White with Black Polka Dots, Outside Viktor & Rolf
All white and polka dots: two themes that are very much of the moment for spring 2012. Love how she contrasts the black polka dot stockings with the white feathered skirt, sheer white blouse and white leather biker vest. The bright clutch and iPhone and red lipstick are the icing on the cake.
Denni in Fausto Puglisi
Fashion blogger Denni of Chic Muse posed for us on the tram tracks outside the Dolce & Gabbana show. This was a real fashion risk, mind you, because these are active tracks with huge trams running through every few minutes! HerĀ Fausto Puglisi is also a fashion risk in all the right ways. Love the elaborate beading at the waist and the flared skirt. The bag is vintage Gucci, the shoes Prada.
