Taylor Tomasi Hill at Prabal Gurung
Printed Parka and Boyfriend Jeans, Outside Etro
A cool parka goes a long way in winter. This one outside the Etro show in Milan was printed with fox tails – still glamorous but friendlier than the real thing. Boyfriend jeans and heels add to the mix.
Tamu McPherson at Lacoste
A great coat goes a long way towards keeping you in style and warm, like this graphic black and white print coat on street style photographer Tamu McPherson of All the Pretty Birds.
Graphic Print Top, Outside Prabal Gurung
One easy way to break out of the all-black rut in winter is to add just one graphic print to the mix, like this guest at the Prabal Gurung show.
Lobster Print Skirt, Outside Prabal Gurung
I am always dying for a sartorial shot of color at this time of year. Bright reds and oranges make a statement outside the Prabal Gurung show with this lobster print skirt.
Printed Pants, Outside Timo Weiland
Vivid prints like this one are a great way to liven up a winter outfit. And that is actually not a fur jacket but a fur vest worn over a leather jacket, an excellent layering technique.
Evelyn Song at Chloe
Fashion blogger Evelyn Song mixed a vintage blue leopard print jacket with burgundy check Zara pants and a crop top for a cool, swingy look outside the Chloe show.
Caroline Issa at Chanel SS2014
Caroline Issa wore a great black and white mix to the Chanel show in Paris. I also love how she styled the graphic print sweatshirt with a white button-down underneath, popping the collar for a Nehru effect.
Alexandra Golovanoff at Iris van Herpen
The whole fashion world is mad for plaid. Outside the Iris van Herpen show in Paris, French fashion TV host Alexandra Golovanoff wore plaid pants and a plaid a jacket by Proenza Schouler. But this is one trend that everyone can get in: just take a plaid flannel and wrap it around your waist. Instant style.
Silk Floral Pajamas, Outside Louis Vuitton
I love how this pajama dressing trend, seen here outside the Louis Vuitton show in Paris, stemmed directly from Marc Jacobs’ preference for wearing pajamas in the daytime.
Valentino Coat, Chanel Bag and Jeans, Outside Valentino
This is the kind of high-low mix that stylists and editors love: a très chic (and expensive) Valentino coat and Chanel matriochka bag worn with a down-to-earth pair of ripped boyfriend jeans. Even if you can’t throw on your best Valentino and Chanel, you can take a cue from this girl: this fall’s shredded boyfriend jeans are best worn cuffed with heels, especially if you’re petite.
Giovanna Battaglia at Rochas
A really fun moment with Giovanna Battaglia outside the Rochas show in Paris. She wore a (vintage?) Alaia leopard print dress and yellow Fendi bag. Très chic!
Miroslava Duma at Hermes SS2014
Such a cute black and white rooster print coat on Miroslava Duma at Hermès. It’s by A.W.A.K.E., a new London-based label that was spotted on several tastemakers this past Paris fashion week. The bag is Hermès, the matching black and white spats Valentino.
Another styling note: how to wear fall’s voluminous coats if you’re petite like Miroslava? Cinch them with a belt.
Helena Bordon at Roberto Cavalli
Helena Bordon wore a cool mix of blue-and-white ikat jacket, black suede skirt and Adidas tee to the Roberto Cavalli show in Milan. The zebra-print boots are the finishing touch: not as dressy as stiletto pumps, but just as sexy and more comfortable for stomping around in all day.
Eva Chen at Sonia Rykiel
Eva Chen, new editor-in-chief at Lucky Magazine and the youngest editor-in-chief at Conde Nast, wore a fabulous Dries van Noten dragon-print coat to the Sonia Rykiel show in Paris. Dries, Dries, Dries: it’s often cited as a fashion insider’s favorite label, and no wonder. The reclusive designer sources gorgeous prints like this one from archives near and far and makes them into wearable works of art.
