Karl-Edwin Guerre at Dior
Menswear is becoming an increasingly big part of the retail market, and this week marks the start of men’s SS2014 fashion week with shows in London. Here are a few looks from the archives of great menswear on the streets. Photographer Karl-Edwin Guerre sported a great summer look of yellow madras pants, brown straw fedora, blue button down and matching blue oxfords outside the Dior show.
Summer Look, Outside J. Mendel
Love the infusion of color that hits menswear when the weather gets warmer. Here a guest at New York fashion week mixes a sharp blue gingham blazer with green jeans.
Two Rainy Day Looks, Outside Marni
A rainy day is no excuse to slouch in the style department: just make sure you have an excellent umbrella. In the cold rain outside the Marni show in Milan, Eleanora Carisi and Candela Novembre looked chic in Marni S/S 2013 outfits. Novembre’s bag is Prada, the umbrella is Chanel. And before you ditch all your platform shoes in favor of the flat soles in stores now, remember, they’re the fashionista’s version of rain boots. Detail shot of that bag, after the jump.
Taylor Tomasi Hill at Rodarte
Taylor Tomasi Hill wore blue plaid and LL Bean-type boots – with heels – to yesterday’s Rodarte show. They may be a century old, but LL Bean boots have been a hot item this slushy NY fashion week season.
Beanie Hat and Plaid Coat, Madison Avenue
Beanie hats with pom poms are the chapeau of choice this New York winter. On Madison Avenue, a woman paired hers with a belted plaid coat and high heel boots for the right mix of playful and professional.
Plaid Coat, Madison Avenue
Thankfully, this year in NYC we’ve seen a move away from ubiquitous black puffer coats and towards more interesting colors and patterns, especially plaid. It isn’t just for fall anymore – it’s appearing throughout the winter. The bag is Balenciaga.
Plaid Coat at Derek Lam
Back into the cold: a belted plaid coat and oversize scarf are a stylish way to battle the elements.

Red and Orange, Soho
Love her offbeat mash-up of different shades of red and orange plus the mixture of textures: silk, knitwear, and flannel.
Red and Black Coats, Soho
I love it when people coordinate with their dogs – if only they could all dress this stylishly! Both owner and dog wore red and black for a walk in Soho recently.
Photographer in Plaid and Corduroy, Outside Chanel
Like this photographer outside the Chanel show, I just want to swathe myself in plaid and corduroy at this time of year. Love the French Aigle boots, too.
Anna Wintour at Giorgio Armani
American Vogue was the most successful fashion magazine of 2011, increasing ad pages during a year when most magazines lost them. Because of its sheer size, it’s a big commitment to lug a copy of Vogue all the way from New York to Milan, but I did. Under Anna Wintour’s stewardship it’s still the thinking person’s fashion magazine, with wonderful essays and memoirs, not to mention Grace Coddington’s beautiful art direction.
The impeccably dressed Wintour is still the queen bee of fashion week. And street style photographers are overjoyed that, if she must travel with bodyguards, at least now they walk behind her. We can finally see what she’s wearing!
White Jeans and Plaid Coat, Outside BCBG
Garance Doré tweeted yesterday that her surprise winter staple has been white jeans. Indeed, if Michael Kors had anything to do with it, we would all wear white jeans all the time. Here they look great and springy with a colorful plaid coat and red bag, outside the BCBG show at Lincoln Center.
Anna Wintour in Plaid
Anna Wintour, entering the Lanvin show in painterly plaid. Love how her personal style is both classic and colorful.
Ulyana Sergeenko at Valentino
The beautiful and stylish Ulyana Sergeenko of Glamour Magazine Russia certainly has a flair for drama, as evidenced by this full length plaid dress and bustier paired with a jaunty hat. The look is goddess of the hunt, high fashion version.
