En Fuego: Thassia Naves at Rochas SS2019
Leila Yavari at Kenzo FW2015
More black and white, this time on Stylebop’s Leila Yavari. This cut of this leather skirt is perfect for 2015 – slim but not quite a pencil cut, with an athletic-style gathered waist.
Backless Top, Outside Donna Karan SS2015
It’s true: you can actually expose your skin to the air this week without fear of frostbite. Who knew this day would ever come?! A top with a few strategic cut outs is a good way to ease into the idea of warm weather after a grueling winter.
Turn Up the Volume: Christine Centenera at Louis Vuitton FW2015
One of the biggest changes in fashion in recent years is increased volume. It’s everywhere: in tops, trousers and skirts. Outside the Louis Vuitton show, Vogue Australia editor Christine Centenera balanced an oversized blue top with a black pencil skirt and powder blue suede boots.
Black and Blue: Ece Sukan at Carven FW2015
We’ve seen a lot of mixing black and blue outside the shows this season, and Ece Sukan did it particularly well with a black studded leather jacket and navy pencil skirt.
Olivia Palermo at Maison Margiela SS2015
Always ahead of the curve, Olivia Palermo attended the Maison Margiela show in the fall. Love the combination of a black peplum jacket with a leather pencil skirt.
Natalya Bogacheva at Rick Owens SS2015
Moi, je ne suis pas Charlie.
I am not nearly as daring or provocative as the cartoonists and editors behind Charlie Hebdo. But like many I am drawn to the provocateurs. Artists and free thinkers are indelibly associated with the city of Paris and should be always. In the world of fashion they would be the punks or those who dare to wear the crazy things no one else would. At the Rick Owens show, Natalya Bogacheva was one of them, donning Thom Browne’s rabbit ears hat and mask to twirl in front of the Eiffel Tower. Vive la Paris.
Carine Roitfeld at Comme des Garcons SS2015
No matter what age we are, we can all take fashion inspiration from Carine Roitfeld. She manages to stay both on trend yet true to her personal style year after year. Before pencil skirts started popping up on runways everywhere, she was wearing them, bringing a classic trend into the new millenium.
How to Style It: Olivia Palermo at Nina Ricci SS2015
I love the color burgundy at this time of year. I also love warm turtleneck sweaters, but hate looking schlumpy. Of course, Olivia Palermo managed to style all these things to look quite chic. At the Nina Ricci show in Paris, she ignored the “rule” about not tucking your sweater into your skirt or pants and tucked her burgundy turtleneck sweater partway into a pencil skirt of the same color to emphasize the waistline. Then she topped it with a big statement necklace and added nude heels for a ladylike look. Brava.
