Something Wild: Damon Rasti at the BK Sunset Bash
Swedish journalist and social activist Damon Rasti mixed animal prints at NY Cult's BK sunset bash on the Williamsburg waterfront.
Tropical Zone: DJ Christine Renee at the Brooklyn Sunset Bash, June 2017
Tropical prints are making a splash this summer, as seen on DJ Christine Renee at the Brooklyn Sunset Bash at 110 Kent last week. The Bakelite bracelet and colorful earrings are great finishing touches.
Parisa at H&M
Whenever I go to parties, I’m secretly on the lookout for fashion inspiration from the other guests. Parisa, who works for H&M, mastered the sartorial mix of work and play at the H&M Conscious Collection party last week. The loose, velvet flocked black jacket has a boho flair for evening, but the crisp white blouse and printed pants (both H&M) are perfectly suitable for work. Most importantly: black ankle boots that have a heel but not too high a heel. You want to be able to work the party!
H&M Conscious Collection
Fast fashion: we all love it, but it comes at a price. As fun as it is to snap up new pieces from inexpensive fast fashion retailers just a few months after trends appear on the runway, those old trends have to go somewhere to die. H&M is the first major retailer to not only encourage customers to recycle used clothing with in-store drop boxes but to create a whole line of sustainable clothing, much of it made from recycled materials.
The second collection of H&M Conscious, a line of women’s and men’s clothing made of organic cotton, silk tencel, recycled polyester and tulle, debuted with parties across the U.S. last night, including their NYC flagship. Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley attended and posed gamely with fans who’d lined up for photos with him. Party and clothing photos, after the jump. (more…)
Instareport: boohoo.com Launch Party
boohoo.com is one of the biggest online shopping sites in the UK with fun, trendy looks inspired by the runway. Now they’re shipping to the U.S. To celebrate, the site hosted a party last night in which they recreated the legendary Manchester nightclub the Hacienda, even flying in DJ’s who spun at the original club in its heyday in the 70s. (more…)
Instareport: Shoptiques Party
Last night was the one-year anniversary party of Shoptiques.com, the online shopping site that enables independently-owned boutiques to sell their clothing and accessories online. It’s a great option for those of us who like the convenience of online shopping but want to find that unique piece.
Street Chic: Dolce & Gabbana Dress, RICA Swimwear Party
Last night’s RICA Swimwear spring preview took place at the rooftop bar of the Mondrian Soho, Soaked. It was the perfect setting for a flirty, chic dress from Dolce & Gabbana that combined leopard and scarf prints. (more…)
Insta-Report: The Blogher Fashion Show
I’ve seen a lot of fashion shows in my time, but not until this weekend did I ever get to be in one. As part of the Blogher 2012 conference, more than a dozen bloggers walked in a show outfitted by online retailer 6pm. I was somewhat terrified of having a Carrie moment on the runway and have a newfound appreciation for professional models. Fortunately I made it through without falling, even on 6-inch Jessica Simpson platform stilettos. (They’re surprisingly comfortable, BTW.) Here are a few Instagram shots from backstage. Follow me on Instagram for up-to-the-minute fashion and food updates – especially as we head into fashion week! (more…)
Tomato Red Maxi Skirt, Parsons MFA
A brightly colored, sheer maxi skirt like this one from Topshop goes easily from daytime to an after-work party. Anna, a guest at the Parsons First Eighteen exhibit, paired it with simple black and white on top, but the suede platform sandals add another pop of color.
White Lace Dress, Parsons MFA Exhibit
Another variation on the little black dress is this season’s little white dress. Designer Jie Li, standing here in front of her work, wore a little white dress with lace edging and a white crocheted cardigan to Monday’s party for the first graduating class of Parsons MFA students, the First Eighteen.
Black Lace Party Dress, Parsons MFA Exhibit
The little black dress is great for a party no matter what the time of year. Designer Jade Rozenbroek wore a lace dress by COS with polka dot tights to her show at the First Eighteen, the Parsons MFA exhibit. Lace also plays a part in her designs for Jack & Jade, pictured after the jump.
The First Eighteen: Parsons MFA Exhibit
Parsons feted its first graduating class of fashion MFA students with an exhibit and party on Monday. The new program, which was partially funded by Parsons alum Donna Karan, has produced some incredibly talented new designers whose clothing wouldn’t be out of place hanging next to much more established brands. Particularly interesting was a willingness to experiment with cutting edge technology in fabric design and technique. Here are a few highlights from the show. (more…)
Zanna Roberts Rassi at the Parsons MFA Exhibit
Marie Claire editor Zanna Roberts Rassi arrived at Monday’s Parsons MFA exhibit looking just as chic as she does during fashion week. We’ve been seeing bright pants on a lot of trendsetters now, but what makes her look particularly cool is how she pairs these Christopher Kane for J Brand neon-bright yellow jeans with a classic military drab jacket. She’s customized the jeans by tucking the flared leg into her lace-up boots. Love it.
Harlem's Fashion Row
On Friday, four designers presented collections at Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, as part of Harlem’s Fashion Row Spring 2012 show. Above, a fringed rope dress by Ingram Talley’s Jakia Handy. (more…)
Fashion's Night Out: Instagram Version
Last night we embarked on a failed attempt to document Fashion’s Night Out via Instagram – failed because the huge crowd of tweeting, emailing, Facebooking fashion enthusiasts totally overwhelmed the AT&T network. Seriously, AT&T – get it together.
This may be a bad thing for social networking, but it’s a good thing for Fashion’s Night Out. If the point is to get people excited about shopping, they were certainly excited. Completely whooped up in fact. Though it may not have inspired a lot of actual purchases, Fashion’s Night Out was a great way to see the new fall collections up close and personal – and plan for future splurges. (more…)
