Vanessa Friedman in a Red Cape, Outside Valentino
A pop of color is a great antidote to cold winter days. Financial Times editor Vanessa Friedman wore a bright red cape to the Valentino show.
Karmen Pedaru in a Fur, Exiting Louis Vuitton
Love the high-low mix of a fur coat and cap toe biker boots on Karmen Pedaru, seen here exiting the Louis Vuitton show in Paris.
Catherine Baba at Lanvin
On the opposite side of the style spectrum is stylist Catherine Baba, who really has a flair for drama. She wore a pale pink silk dress with Chinoiserie accessories: a tassel necklace and earrings and a straw hat for the hot weather. The jewelry looks like Eddie Borgo but the design is slightly different. Baba may be about fashion, but she’s not all about labels.
Virginia Smith in Classic Workwear
Amid all the fantastical outfits of Paris fashion week, it’s the classic work attire that provides the most useful inspiration. Virginia Smith wore an off-white silk button down and tailored trousers to the Lanvin show. The accessories – python print clutch and polished brown leather boots – are what makes it fashion.
Michelle Harper at Viktor & Rolf
True confession: I’ve almost given up on buying anything other than shoes and coats for winter. For five months of the year, it’s nearly all anyone sees of one’s outfit in cold New York, so you might as well have a statement-making coat. Michelle Harper wore a bold mustard yellow trench with a huge, sculptural lapel and matching shoes to the Viktor & Rolf show in Paris. It’s a great example of how one piece of clothing can make an outsized impact.
Leaf Greener at Rochas
Leaf Greener of Elle China wore green and expertly mixed patterns to the Rochas show in Paris. Detail shot after the jump.
Anna Wintour in Plaid
Anna Wintour, entering the Lanvin show in painterly plaid. Love how her personal style is both classic and colorful.
Bryanboy at Chanel
Wouldn’t it be great if you could just design your own clothes when you can’t find exactly the right item in stores? That’s what fashion blogger Bryanboy has been doing, picking out fabric and patterns and having his clothes tailor made. The jacket and pants are his own design, the sweater is Sonia Rykiel.
Snakeskin Pants at Costume National
There’s no need to wait until spring to start wearing snakeskin, even though this pattern was all over the runways for the new season. The digitized print is already popping up everywhere on dresses, jeans and pants, as on this well-dressed attendee at the Costume National show in Paris.
Susan Cernek at Céline
Glamour’s Susan Cernek was featured in WWWD today, which reminded me: I have this photo of her looking smashing outside the Céline show in Paris in flame-colored wool pants. If you’re going to buy any kind of colored cords or pants this season, take a gamble on orange. Also love how she pairs them with metallic green pumps. Detail shot after the jump. (more…)
Frida Gustavsson at Valentino
Such a great fall outfit on Frida Gustavsson outside Valentino. The casual, slouchy pink sweater and cuffed jeans are balanced out by an art deco statement necklace and suede pumps. The red envelope bag is Valentino, a gift to the models who walked the show. She may not have started out the day with a red bag and pink sweater, but the clashiness is kinda cool.
Prints Please
Digital printing has made even the most complex patterns a reality, as Holli Rogers and Natalie Massenet demonstrate with two intricately printed dresses, one a snakeskin pattern, the other a floral, seen here outside the Chloe show in Paris.
Virginia Smith at Viktor & Rolf
Vogue editor Virginia Smith has been rocking a key piece for fall 2011: wide-legged corduroys. Hers are by Theyskens’ Theory, worn simply with a black tee, black RayBan wayfarers and snakeskin clutch.
Ulyana Sergeenko at Valentino
The beautiful and stylish Ulyana Sergeenko of Glamour Magazine Russia certainly has a flair for drama, as evidenced by this full length plaid dress and bustier paired with a jaunty hat. The look is goddess of the hunt, high fashion version.
Arizona Muse at Hermès
Arizona Muse rocked her trademark cowboy hat when she left the Hermès show in Paris. The black bra under a sheer white shirt is a particularly sexy interpretation of the black and white trend.
