Elisa Nalin at Fendi
Certain colors seem to resonate at certain times, and right now it’s green. Elisa Nalin was already rocking it last September at the Fendi show, with a green silk top under a windowpane check blazer and a sparkly green bag for a look that’s cool and summery yet pulled together.
This outfit also shows the increasing importance of menswear in the fashion category: for one thing, it’s really influencing womenswear.
Karl-Edwin Guerre at Dior
Menswear is becoming an increasingly big part of the retail market, and this week marks the start of men’s SS2014 fashion week with shows in London. Here are a few looks from the archives of great menswear on the streets. Photographer Karl-Edwin Guerre sported a great summer look of yellow madras pants, brown straw fedora, blue button down and matching blue oxfords outside the Dior show.
Meredith Melling Burke at Theyskens’ Theory
Wide, pleated trousers like these on Meredith Melling Burke continue to appear on runways for resort 2014 – a worthwhile investment. And I’m a sucker for the raffia bag, a beachwear classic.
The Courtin-Clarins at Rodarte
Two Spring Looks at Diesel Black Gold
Two editors at the Diesel Black Gold show put together great outfits for spring, pairing pale cotton pants with bright colors or prints on top. Note the cropped length of the pants: it’s sexy and chic to show a little ankle, especially with heels.
Elena Perminova at Chanel
This is how to do the exposed midriff, 2013-style. Note that it is not the Jennifer Aniston early 2000’s exposed midriff with lots of skin showing. Elena Perminova paired a crop top with high waisted white pants at the Chanel show and looked perfectly elegant. Heels and high waisted pants or skirts are the key to wearing crop tops now.
Parisa at H&M
Whenever I go to parties, I’m secretly on the lookout for fashion inspiration from the other guests. Parisa, who works for H&M, mastered the sartorial mix of work and play at the H&M Conscious Collection party last week. The loose, velvet flocked black jacket has a boho flair for evening, but the crisp white blouse and printed pants (both H&M) are perfectly suitable for work. Most importantly: black ankle boots that have a heel but not too high a heel. You want to be able to work the party!
Sarah Rutson at Dries van Noten
After fashion week, there are certain outfits I keep coming back to in my mind when I am trying to get dressed myself. This is one of them, on Sarah Rutson outside the Dries van Noten show in Paris. She has styled it so expertly with the layered jackets (a great idea for this still-chilly time of year), navy polka dot blouse, pinstripe trousers, electric blue suede pumps and most importantly, that unexpected pop that comes from the bright Southwestern pattern on her belt. Perfection.
Red Stripe Pants at Haider Ackermann
More colorful colorblocked pants at Haider Ackermann. I love the saturated tomato red paired with a navy overcoat.
Karla Martinez de Salas at Haider Ackermann
Spring means time for new pants, if, like me, you are so sick of your winter black jeans by now. W’s Karla Martinez de Salas rocked these Celine colorblock pants at the Haider Ackermann show, pairing them with a fur coat in the chilly weather.

Valentina Siragusa in Stella McCartney
I love a flash of daffodil-yellow at this time of year: Valentina Siragusa of Factory Style wore Stella McCartney to the show in Paris on a sunny spring day.
Chiara Ferragni at Derek Lam
Cheerful pastels like the ones fashion blogger Chiara Ferragni of the Blonde Salad wore to the Derek Lam show are a great way to get into the spring spirit. The pants and sweater are MSGM, the necklace is Dolores Petunia. Pink Valentino bag.
Sarah Rutson in Camouflage at Marni
Lane Crawford’s Sarah Rutson was is of the trendsetters who helped popularize cargo pants after they first appeared on the Balmain runway. Outside the Marni show, she wore a new menswear version with laces up the back and a camouflage parka. Sexy and sporty, all at once. Detail shot of the back of the trousers and boots after the jump. Nick Wooster at Costello Tagliapietra
Men’s style icon Nick Wooster wore these amazing lace-up jodhpurs to the Costello Tagliapietra show in New York, paired with a tweed vest for more English country style, bomber jacket and sunglasses.
Taylor Tomasi Hill at Missoni
Anytime I see Marc Jacobs’ black and white stripes in all the spring magazines, I can’t help but think of this look on Taylor Tomasi Hill last February. Influencer!
