Tabitha Simmons and Karen Elson in Proenza Schouler, 2012 CFDA Awards
Tabitha Simmons’ shoes have become a big favorite for celebs walking the red carpet, so it’s no surprise that the designer herself looked perfectly at ease in the same environment. The designer and former model, who won the Swarovski award for accessory design, wore a Proenza Schouler jacket and dress and shoes of her own design, as did model Karen Elson, in a green Proenza Schouler ensemble. These were two of my favorite red carpet looks of the night – elegant but daring.
Hilary Rhoda in Rebecca Minkoff, 2012 CFDA Awards
Rebecca Minkoff may have been nominated for a CFDA award in accessory design, but it was her dress that really wowed on last night’s red carpet. Model Hilary Rhoda wore this fabulous blue Rebecca Minkoff dress to the 2012 CFDA Awards. The vivid color, the complex structure and sexy cutouts all combine for a modern bombshell effect.
Padma Lakshmi in a White Dress, Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic
At Saturday’s Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, Padma Lakshmi was another trendsetter in all white. Her dress was all the more dramatic for its romanticism, whereas most guests opted for the sporty look.
Natalie Joos in Cavalli, Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic
The beautiful Natalie Joos attended Saturday’s Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in a white Cavalli dress and Chloe shoes. Love the easy elegance of this look.
Blue Polka Dot Dress, the Great Googa Mooga
Striped Tee and Denim Shorts, the Great Googa Mooga
Denim shorts were a popular sartorial choice at last weekend’s Great Googa Mooga festival in Prospect Park. The white flip flops and white wayfarers play off the graphic black and white stripes of her tee. Another important aspect of festival fashion? If you’re going to show those toes, make sure you have a rockin’ pedicure, like hers in electric blue.
Zigzag Maxi Dress, the Great Googa Mooga
Patterned, free floating maxi dresses are another good option for outdoor concerts. Here a vibrant zigzag maxi dress gets paired with a wide-brimmed black hat at the Great Googa Mooga – sophisticated but casual.
Shorts and Frye Boots, the Great Googa Mooga
Here’s another cool but practical look for outdoor concerts: denim shorts and mid-calf boots. There is no one right style of denim shorts this season. This slightly flared pair looks great with flat, rugged Frye boots, made for tromping around outside no matter what the weather. Also love how she styles it with a striped long sleeve tee and Ray Ban aviators – casual but cute.
The Great Googa Mooga: A Blow by Blow Account
I headed to the Great Googa Mooga this weekend with the intention of live tweeting and Instagramming every second of it. This was going to be fun! A huge food and wine festival in Prospect Park, the likes of which New York had never seen before. What could go wrong? (more…)
Shredded Denim Shorts, the Great Googa Mooga
New Yorkers broke out their best festival wear for this weekend’s Great Googa Mooga food and music extravaganza in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. One guest wore totally shredded and destroyed denim shorts, mixing them with a black top and black and white shades. The outfit is not just cool but practical: a small cross body bag, boots, bedspread and wide brimmed hat make it easy to either dance or sit down and picnic.
Tomato Red Maxi Skirt, Parsons MFA
A brightly colored, sheer maxi skirt like this one from Topshop goes easily from daytime to an after-work party. Anna, a guest at the Parsons First Eighteen exhibit, paired it with simple black and white on top, but the suede platform sandals add another pop of color.
White Lace Dress, Parsons MFA Exhibit
Another variation on the little black dress is this season’s little white dress. Designer Jie Li, standing here in front of her work, wore a little white dress with lace edging and a white crocheted cardigan to Monday’s party for the first graduating class of Parsons MFA students, the First Eighteen.
Black Lace Party Dress, Parsons MFA Exhibit
The little black dress is great for a party no matter what the time of year. Designer Jade Rozenbroek wore a lace dress by COS with polka dot tights to her show at the First Eighteen, the Parsons MFA exhibit. Lace also plays a part in her designs for Jack & Jade, pictured after the jump.
