WFH Fit: Saturated Color, Outside Max Mara FW2020
Saturated color is one of my favorite things to see on the other end of a video call. Bring it! Even before the pandemic, there was a shift away from all black, and as you probably now know, it doesn’t photograph well. (Not to mention it adds another layer of gloom we don’t need right now.) This look is dressed up enough for a client call but roomy enough for sitting at your desk all day. Again note the chunky necklace: a key styling element.
Year of the Woman: Marie Beltrami, Paris 2018
Azzedine Alaïa and Carla Sozzani, Paris 2014
R.I.P. Azzedine Alaïa, one of the last true master couturiers. He was a familiar sight during Paris couture week, when he walked into shows without any fanfare, almost always with his dear friend Carla Sozzani. One interesting thing to note about this photo – these were their outfits of choice for July. Mid-summer or not, black was always the order of the day.
Black and Red: David Thielebeule at Tory Burch SS2018
A cool day-to-night look on David Thielebeule, who’s just as comfortable hopping from city to city for fashion weeks as he is chilling out in the country. As I know, because after seeing him in New York, Milan and Paris, I ran into him in a Westchester apple orchard! Great minds think alike? He’s always well dressed, no matter what the occasion. I like that this look is just the tiniest bit disco and therefore very on trend.
Daytime Chic: Midi Skirt and Button-Down, Outside Valentino Resort 2018
The midi skirt paired with a button-down shirt is shaping up to be a key daytime look for spring/summer 2017. This polished but pretty Valentino skirt was spotted on a couple of guests at the resort show in NYC.
Pretty in Punk: Caroline Daur at Carven SS2017
There’s something particularly inspiring about punk-inspired looks right now. Caroline Daur wore a choker studded with beads that look like pins and a pink Carven top to the Carven show in Paris.
Think Pink, Outside Valentino SS2017
This lady with pink hair was by far one of the most stylish people to walk out of the Valentino show this fall – much more well dressed and fabulous than many of the young models. So yes, as the New York Times said this weekend, don’t dress your age. If you’re going to dye the gray away, why not dye your hair hot pink?
Pajama Dressing: Chiara Ferragni at Chloe SS2017
This trend’s got legs: pajama dressing has been around for a couple seasons now, but this fall the looks are more sophisticated, like this navy silk pajama set on Chiara Ferragni. We noticed many women dressing for evening shows and dinners in silk pajamas. The style has particular appeal because it’s so comfortable, which is the way women really want to dress now.
Devon Windsor, Rachel Hilbert and Anouk van Kleef at Coachella 2016
Modelpalooza! Devon Windsor, Rachel Hilbert and Anouk van Kleef layered dresses and vests over shorts and bikinis at Coachella day 0ne. Also note the round sunglasses on all three of them. If you buy nothing else this summer, get yourself a pair of these for an instant update.
Gilda Ambrosio at Maison Martin Margiela FW2016
At the Maison Martin Margiela show, Gilda Ambrosio wore two trends we’ve been seeing a lot of: velvet and choker necklaces. And the two things go together so well, in a Stevie Nicks kind of way.
Sarah Rutson at Bottega Veneta SS2016
Winner for coolest outfit of the day on Saturday: Sarah Rutson riffing on the pajama-dressing trend by wearing actual silk pajamas to the Bottega Veneta show. The velvet platform heels and necklaces dress it up.
Jen Mankins at Creatures of the Wind SS2015
It may be too hot to throw on a suede jacket, but it’s never too soon to bust out the latest accessories. Jen Mankins of the highly influential Brooklyn boutique Bird ushered in the fall last September with a blue Mansur Gavriel bucket bag and sculptural necklace.
Jenna Lyons at Prabal Gurung SS2015
J. Crew’s Jenna Lyons mixed a white tee with a cream colored blazer, cream colored jeans and gold jewelry for a relaxed but sophisticated look on a hot day at Prabal Gurung’s show.
Annie Georgia Greenberg at Prabal Gurung SS2015
Annie Georgia Greenberg kept cool on a super hot day last September in a flowing silk plaid dress that caught the breeze outside the Prabal Gurung show.
Anya Ziourova at Chanel Couture FW2015
I am loving the chic take on utilitarian, garage-style jumpsuits on the streets now. Anya Ziourova wore a blue one by Rosie Assoulin to the Chanel couture show in Paris.
