In the Navy: Kate Davidson Hudson at Michael Kors FW2015

Kate Davidson Hudson at Michael Kors FW2015

It’s Army vs. Navy out here on the streets, where the number of nautically-inspired outfits is only matched by the number of drab green military ones as well. Kate Davidson Hudson of the Editorialist wore a white double breasted jacket and wide legged navy pants with buttons to the Michael Kors show yesterday.

Emily Ratajkowski at Jason Wu FW2015Model and actress Emily Ratajkowski can make even a navy dress and tweed coat look sexy, as seen at the Jason Wu show in New York.

Ralph Lauren, Outside His 2015 Resort Show

Ralph Lauren, Outside the 2015 Resort Show

Well, this was definitely my favorite shot of the day. Ralph Lauren exited his 2015 resort show impeccably dressed in his own label. It’s hard to deny his star power. Even Condé Nast editors are starstruck by him, especially when his son David charmingly introduces him by saying, “Meet my dad.”

Leandra Medine at Rodarte FW2014

Leandra Medine at RodarteIf, like me, you are sick of all black all the time for winter but still need a reliable neutral for spring, don’t forget about navy. At the Rodarte show in New York, Leandra Medine of the Man Repeller mixed this classic preppy color with black and white loafers and glittery Miu Miu sunglasses.

Sarah Rutson at Celine FW2014

Sarah Rutson at Celine FW2014

Sarah Rutson looked fabulous as always at the Celine FW2014 show in Paris. The lace-up booties are Alaia and the diamond-print coat – wait for it – J. Crew! Now that’s mastering the mix.

Caroline de Maigret at Isabel Marant FW2014

Caroline de Maigret at Isabel Marant FW2014

French top model Caroline de Maigret wore an Etoile Isabel Marant cotton coat to the designer’s show in Paris. I love the shades of blue all over – including jeans and a denim Chanel clutch – and the tribal vibe of this spring coat. Very sexy and cool.

Nasiba Adilova at Derek Lam

Buro 24/7‘s Nasiba Adilova –  a great fashion insider to follow on Instagram BTW – looked fabulous in navy at the Derek Lam show. The flounced sleeves and the navy color of her dress are such a nice alternative to your basic black uniform – something to keep this in mind as winter nears.

Red Stripe Pants at Haider Ackermann

More colorful colorblocked pants at Haider Ackermann. I love the saturated tomato red paired with a navy overcoat.

Julia Sarr-Jamois at Moschino

Julia Sarr-Jamois stood out in the snow after the Moschino show yesterday, looking great as usual. But most importantly: how awesome is her jacket?!? The monogramming takes varsity jackets to a whole new level of fashion – a varsity level, in fact.

Polka Dot Jeans, After Rochas

An abstract polka dot print takes basic jeans up a notch. This look may be casual, but it’s also luxurious thanks to the blue suede and shearling of her motorcycle jacket.

Christene Barberich at Yigal Azrouel

Layers, layers, layers are the key to dressing for chilly spring weather, as Refinery 29 editor Christene Barberich demonstrates outside the Yigal Azrouel show. Another good idea is to swap out black for navy, a more upbeat neutral for spring. The graphic embroidered edge of her jacket and polka-dot socks keep it lively.

Preppy Fashion, Outside Ralph Lauren

Preppy fashion is always at home at a Ralph Lauren show. It’s risky to belt a navy puffer vest, worn over a black and white print sweater and yet another layer underneath, yet somehow the whole look comes together beautifully.

Navy Toggle Cloak, Outside Louis Vuitton

If you can’t tear yourself away from dark winter colors just yet, at least try experimenting with navy, a lighter, springier neutral. Seen here: a hooded navy toggle cloak outside Louis Vuitton show. The look is a little bit collegiate, a little bit romantic, and all around flattering.

Navy Romper With Belt, Prince Street

Aurelie Claudel

Anyone willing to bare her legs in yesterday’s 80-degree weather brought out the shorts, especially rompers. This model-esque woman in NoLita sported a navy blue short shorts romper with a wide caramel-colored belt, black sandals and cross-body bag, perfectly mixed and accessorized.
