Tiffany Hsu at Miu Miu FW2016
The weather feels a little like fall today and as such we’re going to do some trend spotting for September. Velvet was on the checklists of some major retailers this past fashion month – look for more of it in stores come fall. Tiffany Hsu wore a dramatic ruched red velvet dress to the Miu Miu show in Paris.
Candela Novembre at Antonio Marras FW2016
Candela Novembre was one of several showgoers we’ve seen this week to wear metallic silver pants, adding some flash to a gray day.
Irene Kim at Jason Wu FW2016
It was an alternately windy, freezing, snowy and rainy New York Fashion Week this February, but fashion week guests survived it in style. At the Jason Wu show, Irene Kim topped a gold pleated skirt with a fluffy white shearling coat.
Hilary Tsui at Loewe SS2016
The brand Loewe is accumulating a cult following among the fashion set. Actress Hilary Tsui attended the show yesterday in a metallic Loewe dress, flared pants, and Loewe bag and sunglasses.
Gilda Ambrosio at Dries van Noten SS2016
Street style-wise, this has been the season of Gilda. The Italian fashionista has tapped into the ’70s zeitgeist that’s been percolating since Alessandro Michele took over at Gucci. Her center part and retro shades, personal style trademarks of hers for years already, add to a sexy, louche look that’s also beautifully put together.
Bao Bao Wan at Dior Couture FW2015
Bao Bao Wan attended the Dior couture show in a shimmering metallic cocktail dress and sky-high platform wedges.
Miroslava Duma at Gucci Cruise 2016
I must say I was somewhat skeptical of Alessandro Michele’s first collection for Gucci – the fall/winter collection he showed on the runway this past February. With so many vintage-y, even granny-like quirks, it was as if Bushwick had landed in Milan. But when you see the clothes in motion, his vision becomes clear, and the true luxury of the fabrics and cut shines through – as seen on Miroslava Duma at the Gucci Cruise show yesterday in New York. This copper-colored dress from the fall 2015 collection has just the right combination of quirk and classic feminine beauty. The clothes on the resort runway – which was actually a closed-off West 22nd Street – were equally fluid and graceful.
Yoyo Cau at Sacai FW2015
Loved this interpretation of trends on Yoyo Cao that’s current without being over the top: a bolero jacket and hat with layered necklaces and a ’70s-style patchwork denim maxi skirt.
Mix Master: Lynn Yaeger at Rick Owens SS2015
Legendary fashion writer Lynn Yaeger displayed her deft hand at mixing high and low at the Rick Owens show, where she topped off a black tulle Comme des Garcons shift with a gold metallic cardigan by Joe Fresh.
Bye Bye, Stilettos: Jennifer Neyt at Tory Burch SS2015
When we saw the editors of French Vogue in lower heels during couture week, we knew major change was afoot. Long known for their sky-high stilettos and skinny jeans, French Voguettes like Jennifer Neyt have moved to a more relaxed silhouette of slouchy pants and heels no higher than three inches tall. Take note! A look at those heels, after the jump.
Giovanna Battaglia at Diane von Furstenberg SS2015
This has been a uniform of sorts for some of us women pounding the streets during New York fashion week, but of course Giovanna Battaglia does it particularly well: graphic tee, tennis-esque skirt and sneakers. I love all the gold going on in this outfit. Silver and gold are turning out to be key shades for accessories for fall – not just jewelry but also shoes and bags.
Elena Perminova at Dior Haute Couture FW2014
It was great to see Elena Perminova back on the scene at Paris Couture. At the Christian Dior show on Tuesday, she mixed a silver silk dress with a classic boater hat and metallic sunglasses – a chic combination of old and new for summer.
