A Year in Cycling
One of the most lasting and unexpected impacts of the pandemic on New York City may be the transformation of our city streets. In the first few months of the shutdown, when subways were reserved for essential workers, New Yorkers took to cycling and many of them never stopped. Bikes whizzed by where trucks once idled, and even now that car traffic has returned, cyclists and outdoor diners have not relinquished their claim on public space.
Cycling also influenced what we wear, the key question being, can you pedal in it? Whatever that is, be it a dress or a pantsuit or bike shorts, it’s probably your best option for daytime dressing.

Masked Men, Union Square Greenmarket, June 2020
I had to stop and photograph these guys because of the Old Bay mask – love it! Not surprisingly, they, like me, are originally from Maryland, where Old Bay goes with (almost) everything. The mask on the left looks like camo from far away, but it’s actually a dog print.
Captain’s Hat, Outside Pamella Roland FW2020
There’s no such thing as a “typical” New Yorker, and why should there be? Loved this guy’s style outside the Pamella Roland show.
Paris Warren at NYFW: Men’s, February 2018
Plaid Coat, Astor Place 2019
A great menswear look shot this month for Footwear Plus. Look for more hooded sweatshirts layered under coats and jackets this winter.
Wrapped Up: Linda Tol at NYFW February 2018
A great menswear-inspired look on Linda Tol at NYFW last February. This oversized silhouette has only gained traction since last year.
Prints Charming: Jenke Ahmed Tailly at Viktor & Rolf FW2018
When matchy-matchy really works, as seen on top stylist Jenke Ahmed Tailly at the Viktor & Rolf show.
A Family Affair: Arriving at Valentino Couture FW2018
Gotta Prada: Susie Bubble and Bryanboy at Prada Resort 2019
Prada held its 2019 resort show in NYC on Friday. Thank you, Miuccia, for coming to New York when even some American designers have gone the opposite way across the pond! The show attracted an international crowd of celebs and fashion insiders, including Susie Bubble and Bryanboy, looking super cute together in matching Prada. A close up after the jump. (more…)
Well Suited: Dapper Dan at the New York Times Street Style Relaunch Party at Nordstrom
I photographed this guy at the New York Times Styles Street Style relaunch party at Nordstrom because I thought he was the coolest guy in the room. Then I realized he was Dapper Dan. Definitely the coolest guy in the room!
Something Blue: Douglas Booth at Chanel’s Tribeca Film Festival Dinner 2018
A great spring menswear look on Douglas Booth at the Chanel Tribeca Film Festival dinner. The finishing touch: socks that match the jacket.
