David Thielebeule at BCBG FW2014
Flashback to the first day of Fashion Month: WSJ’s David Thielebeule always strikes just the right balance of classic and on trend in menswear, layering a black and white burled coat over a black leather jacket, white button down and dark jeans.
Simone Marchetti at Armani
Simone Marchetti of La Repubblica wore a great black and white plaid coat and shirt to the Armani show in Milan. And: that’s a Fendi fur keychain on his bag.
Justin O’Shea at Marc by Marc Jacobs
The ever-dapper Justin O’Shea of MyTheresa strode into the Marc by Marc Jacobs show in a gray plaid coat, gray three-piece suit, paisley tie and pink shirt. The whole look nodded to current trends (plaid, pink and paisley) but stayed within the parameters of O’Shea’s distinct personal style.
Inside the show, also attended by LVMH’s Delphine Arnaud, there were several big changes: the line is now designed by Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley, appointed this fall, and the new label name will be MBMJ.
Karl-Edwin Guerre at Etro
I have to keep reminding myself that as a street style photographer, it is possible to look good in bad weather during fashion week. It is possible it is possible it is possible… Case in point: the ever-dapper Karl-Edwin Guerre of Guerrisms seen here on a miserably wet day outside the Etro show in Milan.
Fashion people, take heart and use your clothes as beautiful armor against this snowy weather. I know I will when I hit the streets for New York Fashion Week – starting tomorrow!
Simone Marchetti at Dries van Noten
Men’s accessories are a huge growth area in retail right now, and no wonder when men like La Repubblica‘s Simone Marchetti wear them so well. The pink polka dot scarf is Valentino.
Hamish Bowles at Elie Saab Couture
A little menswear for you: Vogue columnist Hamish Bowles’s choice of a plaid suit in summer 2013 seems prescient now that plaid is everywhere on the streets for men and women. Also love how his socks match his shirt.
Pharrell Williams at Comme des Garcons
I have to say I had no idea Pharrell Williams was so well dressed in “real life.” This is such a great mix of the patchwork coat, tee, necklaces, cuffed jeans, leopard print pony skin skater shoes, and just a glimpse of a black and white polka dot cardigan underneath. The fedora is not only elegant but perfect for a drizzly afternoon in Paris.
Simone Marchetti at Armani
La Repubblica‘s Simone Marchetti is one of the most dapper men on the European fashion scene. Camouflage has been a continuing motif for him, now updated in a pixelated houndtooth print version in this jacket, which I think is Valentino.
P.S. He is really fun to follow on Instagram if you want an inside look at the fashion world and, when he’s off duty, la dolce vita.
Blue Carreon at BCBG
One of my favorite guys to photograph, Blue Carreon, wore his signature blue to the BCBG show in a print blazer with white chinos and loafers.
Simone Marchetti at Chanel
La Reppublica editor Simone Marchetti was one of the best dressed men at Paris couture, attending the Chanel show in a robin’s egg blue suit and polka dot cravat. Perfect for summer, sophisticated enough for some serious business.
Linen Blazer and Khakis, Outside Timo Weiland
Linen is key in hot weather, but an entire linen suit can be a wrinkly hassle. Instead this guest at NY fashion week mixed a cream colored linen blazer with pale chinos for the tone-on-tone look of a suit. To finish it off: a pocket square and green suede loafers worn without socks.
Printed Polo, Outside DKNY
Sometimes a snazzy shirt is all you need. This guy is one of many to mix daywear with neon bright sneakers – a high-low combination that works especially well if you add luxe accessories like a leather zip bag.
Blue Suit and Brown Hat, Milan
Here’s more snappy dressing from a previous season in Milan: a perfectly tailored suit in cornflower blue looks great with a dark brown hat and orange briefcase.
Gingham Suit, Outside Gucci
OK, this was not actually this week’s menswear show, since alas I am not in Milan at this moment, but still: the look is great for summer. The saffron yellow tie really pops, and all-over gingham is a bold move.
