WFH Fit: Saturated Color, Outside Max Mara FW2020
Saturated color is one of my favorite things to see on the other end of a video call. Bring it! Even before the pandemic, there was a shift away from all black, and as you probably now know, it doesn’t photograph well. (Not to mention it adds another layer of gloom we don’t need right now.) This look is dressed up enough for a client call but roomy enough for sitting at your desk all day. Again note the chunky necklace: a key styling element.
Ti Amo, Milano
Fourteen days and what seems like a lifetime ago, Milan Fashion Week was the most enjoyable fashion week I attended this year. The weather was beautiful – sunny and 60 degrees – the clothes were cheerful pops of color, almost everyone was in a good mood, and the living was easy. It wasn’t until the last day that coronavirus started to affect the city. Milan, we are wishing you a return to la dolce vita very soon.
One important fashion takeaway from Milan fashion week: saturated color. This is one of the things Italy has always done best. Again we are seeing monochromatic dressing here, but revved up for spring. Think of it as superhero outfits, separates in the same bright color from head to toe, often a pantsuit. Interestingly, we did not see a lot of prints except as an accent, which is certainly a change from the wild mishmash of Prada and Gucci prints quite recently. And the pastels of yesteryear look washed out by comparison. (more…)
Outside Max Mara, Milan Fashion Week SS 2018
Daring in Denim, Outside Max Mara FW2016
One upshot of the wane of skinny jeans: denim has become a lot less conformist. Outside the Max Mara show, a guest wore an oversized denim jacket and pants with contrasting cuffs for a cool spin on this workday staple.
Black and White Is Always Right: Candela Novembre at Max Mara FW2016
“Black and white is always right,” as my aunt likes to say, and there’s never a better time than when the weather is in flux. Candela Novembre paired a white angora sweater with a black pencil skirt and gorgeous heels at the Max Mara show.
Ji Hye Park at Max Mara FW2014
Model Ji Hye Park exited the Max Mara show in Milan in distressed overalls – a look that would also be cute and practical for summer music festivals.
Gray Dress and Coat, Outside Max Mara
Here’s some Easter fashion inspiration for you: monochromatic looks in pale colors are perfect for spring 2014. Love the elegant dove gray color of her dress, bag and coat.
Carine Roitfeld at Max Mara FW2014
The always-elegant Carine Roitfeld wore all black, including one of her signature pencil skirts, and a fur scarf to the Max Mara show in Milan.
Magda Laguinge at Max Mara
Model Madga Laguinge wore black and white all over, including a sheer black crocheted skirt, after the Max Mara show in Milan.
Cream Silk Coat, Outside Max Mara
A beautiful look for transitional spring weather. Outside the Max Mara show in Milan, a guest wore a long black vest under a pale cream silk coat for an invisible layer of warmth. The tomato red pants are a nice pop of color; the jeweled buckle flats are Prada. Also note: again, bared ankles for spring.
Ada Kokosar at Max Mara
Striped Jacket, Outside Max Mara
One advantage of the unseasonably warm weather this spring: New Yorkers actually have a chance to wear jackets, not segue immediately from coats to tank tops. This season there’s a great variety of luxe jackets out there in a mix of materials and colors, like this one with striped sleeves and lining and leather piping outside the Max Mara show in Milan.
Anna Dello Russo in Prada
We’ve all been waiting to see Prada’s spring race car-themed collection in person, and here it is, on Anna Dello Russo in Milan. The race car imagery and flame-licked heels are over-the-top fabulous, just like Anna. Shoe shot after the jump. (more…)
