Taylor Tomasi Hill in Black and White Stripes
Bill Cunningham’s column this weekend reminded me of this photo from the Louis Vuitton show – Taylor Tomasi Hill in graphic black and white stripe pants. It’s a particularly daring look made even more so with a black leather corset under that jacket. Black and white is perfect for this time of year, when we’re finally starting to transition to the all white looks of summer.
Kasia Struss and Ginta Lapina, After Louis Vuitton
Paris Fashion Week ended last week, but when I close my eyes images like these still linger: gorgeous women like Kasia and Ginta against the beautiful background of the Louvre. Ginta Lapina carries what was decidedly the It Bag of fashion week: the Celine trapeze bag.
Navy Toggle Cloak, Outside Louis Vuitton
If you can’t tear yourself away from dark winter colors just yet, at least try experimenting with navy, a lighter, springier neutral. Seen here: a hooded navy toggle cloak outside Louis Vuitton show. The look is a little bit collegiate, a little bit romantic, and all around flattering.
Grace Coddington at Louis Vuitton
The world of fashion photography would not be what it is today were it not for Grace Coddington, creative director of Vogue, who paused for a photo yesterday outside the Louis Vuitton show. This fashion week, she wore a lot of black and white, which in Paris will always evoke two other fashion greats, Coco Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent.
Anna Dello Russo, Outside Prabal Gurung
Like many fashionable Italians, Anna Dello Russo appreciates exquisite detail. She arrived at the Prabal Gurung show in a bejeweled satin mini dress and gold Louis Vuitton bag. Very Anna! Her shoes, after the jump. (more…)
Blush Jacket, Outside Louis Vuitton
Loved this gorgeous blush pink jacket outside the Louis Vuitton show. It’s the perfect color for this spring – and the sunglasses are just right.
Zanna Roberts Rassi at Louis Vuitton
I don’t have enough photos of Zanna Roberts Rassi up – and she was beautifully dressed at Paris Fashion Week! Here she is in a particularly striking outfit of gray wool trousers and a camel sweater with fur sleeves.
7 Days of Anna Dello Russo
Rarely do you see anyone have as much fun with fashion as Anna Dello Russo. Just when we thought she couldn’t top the last outrageously fashionable outfit during Paris fashion week, she would arrive in a completely different ensemble, having gone back to the hotel to change between shows. She favors designers from her native Italy and doesn’t shy from color or pattern. I can’t imagine how she packs the variety of headpieces, boots, suits, furs, jewels and dresses it takes for a single week, but I picture a couple of Louis Vuitton steamer trunks in her hotel room. Hats off to this over-the-top fashion plate who radiates chic sunshine wherever she goes. A seven-day roundup, after the jump. (more…)
Girl in Khaki Pants, Outside Louis Vuitton
A lot of young people come to the Paris shows just to stand outside and be part of the mix. I thought this girl had great personal style with the khakis, the lace-up boots, the floral shirt under a thick cableknit cardigan and the necklace that is actually just an ordinary housekey on a chain.
Navy Blue With Polka Dots, Outside Louis Vuitton
Such a cute retro look, again in navy, with a below-the-knee pleated wool crepe skirt and jacket, accessorized with a white cap and navy envelope pouch at the belt. The polka dot blouse is also a nod to Louis Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs, who featured polka dots prominently in his namesake fall collection in New York.
Sailor Stripes, Outside Louis Vuitton
Keep an eye out for this woman, because she attracted the attention of many street style photographers outside the Louis Vuitton show in Paris. The look is effortlessly cool, even laid back: sailor striped shirt paired with a double breasted navy blazer, white pants and blue “flatform” shoes. And yet everything hits the right note. I like that her hair is a bit mussed – it keeps the whole thing from looking too done.
Addendum: These are the Prada flatforms that are getting so much flak from non-admirers. They actually look perfectly good in real life.
Last Show: Louis Vuitton SS2011
Alas, it’s always sad when Fashion Week ends, so I’ve been delaying this post for weeks. But on the last day in Paris, the Louis Vuitton show capped off the week, and a number of interesting models, celebs and fashion people made the scene.
A model leaves the show in a dramatic black fur cape, long black skirt and black felt hat. (more…)
Louis Vuitton Miniature Accessories
As we move away from logo mania, expect accessories to get more whimsical – which is what makes these miniature accessories by Louis Vuitton so maddeningly brilliant. The label that spurred on the logo craziness of the aughts is now leading the way towards a more subtle type of branding: If you look closely and you’ll see that even the appliqué brown hen is logo’d.
Though they don’t approach the over-the-top logoization of Marc and Lorenzo’s matching Louis Vuitton beach towel outfits in St. Barts, the bird, bunny, squirrel and hen change purses are still undeniably cute. Louis Vuitton triumphs again.
No word on the price yet, but we expect they won’t be cheep.
Book It: Louis Vuitton: Art, Fashion and Architecture
Of the three new fashion tomes Eric Wilson reviewed in today’s Times, the one that sounds the most worthwhile is this Louis Vuitton book, Louis Vuitton: Art, Fashion and Architecture ($130). Not only does it come with a jacket designed by Takashi Murakami, it has a cool plexiglass cover, perfect for those of us who sometimes accidentally use our coffee table books as a coaster.
Of course, even more important it what’s inside: a pictorial retrospective of the brand’s many collaborations with designers in the worlds of art, fashion and architecture. It’s published by Rizzoli and is only available in Louis Vuitton stores and online at louisvuitton.com, so don’t try trolling for it on Amazon – mon Dieu! It’s buried on Vuitton’s hard-to-navigate website, but you can get directly to it buy clicking here.
