Leopard Top and Blue Celine Bag, Outside 3.1 Phillip Lim
The fashion set is definitely cliquey when it comes to favoring certain brands. Last spring, a number of editors wore Prada’s stripes to the Paris shows. This fall, Céline handbags have been on the arms of many. For color trends, look for lots of this vivid blue – we’ll call it Bill Cunningham blue – a surprising and refreshing color for fall. And of course the rest of her outfit is equally brilliant – from the sheer leopard top to the two-tone sunglasses to the studded bracelets and black and gold nail polish.

Barneys fashion director Amanda Brooks wore lots of fabulous outfits this fashion week, all of which were chronicled in The Cut’s Fashion Week Style Diaries. Here she arrived at the Rag & Bone show in Céline sunglasses, Maje by Vanessa Traina camisole, Giulietta pants, Azzedine Alaïa sandals and a Céline bag. Lane Crawford’s Sarah Rutson looked gorgeous at Jason Wu in a strapless pleated black dress. But since she is one of fashion’s bellwethers, it’s important to note what she’s wearing: a dress! Sarah Rutson was one of the first to wear all sorts of skinny pants and jeans with platform stilettos in past seasons. This past NY fashion week, however, she wore dresses and skirts almost every day.

Leather Skirt and Top, Harlem's Fashion Row
Harlem’s Fashion Row presented the collections of four local designers on Friday, and a very fashionable crowd came to see the show. Above, Tiger Lily, a guest and New York DJ, in a leather top and skirt from H&M. The head scarf is also a good example of how a little bit of leopard can go a long way.

Leopard Top and Cut-Offs, Prince Street
As tweeted, I am so tired of seeing everyone in NYC in shorts and t-shirts. The outfit can easily be upgraded with a nice top like this leopard blouse, a nice bag and sheer black flats, with all the comfort of shorts. See? Not so hard.

Joanna Hillman at Michael Kors
Many women at fashion week are fashionably dressed, but Joanna Hillman of Harper’s Bazaar is a street chic superstar (not just here but in Japan!) because her personal style is totally relatable. This outfit provides an excellent lesson for all women in mixing patterns: leopard and sailor stripes, both great on their own, can look fantastic when mixed together with a keen eye for proportion and balance. Love the side swept braid, too.

Cinched-Waist Parka, Madison Avenue
As much as we love coats – camel coats, winter white coats, print coats, belted coats – it is the parka that gets the most play when the weather drops below freezing. But the Norma Kamali sleeping-bag style of years past has been feminized. This winter’s parkas, like this one in army green, often feature cinched waists, even flared skirts. Best of all, they’re fabulously warm.

Alexander McQueen SS2011
This much-anticipated show was the first after Alexander McQueen’s tragic death last spring, with his friend and colleague Sarah Burton taking the reins. The show seemed to provoke a bittersweet reaction in some of the guests – you can see strains of the old McQueen in Burton’s designs, since she had been his collaborator for so long. The dark, Gothic sensibility is still there – particularly in this season’s ravishing Alexander McQueen boots designed by Burton – but the spring designs were deftly turned out by Burton’s lighter hand, giving McQueen fans hope for the future of the line.
Alexander McQueen boots are part of a smart new interpretation of evening wear: tuxedo jacket, frilled white blouse, a swingy jet bead necklace and skinny black jeans. (more…)

Chloe’s autumn/winter 2010 collection has already proved highly influential this fall with its wide-legged trousers and camel coats, so the spring/summer 2011 show was a must-see for many. The distinctive colors of Chloe’s fall line were on display on the guests in the Tuileries.

Balmain SS2011
Before there were slim cut cargo pants on every retail floor on every corner, there were slim cut cargo pants on the runway at Balmain. This French label spearheaded the military chic trend that has resonated with consumers over the past few seasons. Slightly androgynous but always sexy, Christophe Decarnin’s designs have quite a following, as evidenced by the cool crowd outside the Le Grand Hotel.
