Crisp Whites: Christine Centenera at Dries Van Noten FW2015
Nothing says “summertime” like a crisp all white outfit. Christine Centenera was elegantly turned out in an optic white tunic layered over a white shirt and white slit maxi skirt at the Dries Van Noten show.
Saskia de Brauw at Mugler FW2015
I love how top model Saskia de Brauw combines different layers with such panache. She exited the Mugler show in Paris wearing an oversize gray coat, skinny scarf tied at the neck, oxford and a shirt dress. And yes, that is a bike helmet in her hand. After walking the runway, she just biked home like a regular Parisian!
Leila Yavari at Carven FW2015
Such a cool look on Leila Yavari at the Carven show in Paris – and a good example of how ’90s grunge has been repurposed with a more sophisticated edge for 2015.
Helena Bordon at Chloe FW2015
One of my favorite looks on Helena Bordon during Paris fashion week. A striped maxi skirt or dress is a great base for spring layering, and I love how she mixed it with a sheer white off the shoulder sweater. Chloe green bag.
Turn Up the Volume: Christine Centenera at Louis Vuitton FW2015
One of the biggest changes in fashion in recent years is increased volume. It’s everywhere: in tops, trousers and skirts. Outside the Louis Vuitton show, Vogue Australia editor Christine Centenera balanced an oversized blue top with a black pencil skirt and powder blue suede boots.
Sarah Ann Murray at Schiaparelli Couture SS2015
Sarah Ann Murray of The Rake magazine layered a plaid cape over a plaid jacket at the Schiaparelli couture show in Paris, to great visual effect. And also practical warmth, as mentioned in today’s New York Times Thursday Styles, where my photo of Irene Kim in layered coats illustrates the point!
Another cool detail we saw several times on Paris couture week attendees: decorative leather buckles at the neck of jackets and capes.
Christine Centenera at Miu Miu FW2014
Vogue Australia’s Christine Centenera expertly layered a menswear-inspired blue shirt under a sweater and over a super feminine long black skirt and stiletto sandals at the Miu Miu show in Paris.
Lynn Yaeger at Comme des Garcons
One of my favorite fashion writers ever, Lynn Yaeger, stopped for a moment outside the Comme des Garçons show in Paris for a photo. Her pretty and feminine outfit is quietly subversive – that’s a skull and crossbones motif woven into the Fair Isle collar. You can take the girl out of New York….
Sheer Layers, Outside Dior
Loved the creativity of this sheer layered look outside the Dior couture show in Paris. The bag is Dior.
Photographer in Layers at Fendi
This look is all about the mix – love how she fearlessly pairs lilac suede booties with a green print tee over an orange and white striped dress. It’s a new way of layering that really works for summer.
Sarah Rutson at Stella McCartney
Lane Crawford’s Sarah Rutson really knows how to put an outfit together. Love the rich textures and colors of the embroidered sweater and floral print silk pencil skirt. Then she adds a belt, sleek metallic stilettos and lots of jewelry. It’s maximalism at its finest and a great example of layering during transitional weather.
Lynn Yaeger at Ralph Lauren
Someone we all look forward to seeing at NY Fashion Week: the inimitable Lynn Yaeger. She is quite the fashion maximalist and detailed her packing strategies for the European fashion weeks in this funny Travel & Leisure essay.
Aline Weber at Stella McCartney
It seems like April showers have finally caught up with us, but don’t let the weather be a downer in the fashion department. Top model Aline Weber captivated the crowd outside the Stella McCartney show with her free spirited style. Here she brightens up a gloomy Paris day with lots of boho layers – a crushed velvet blazer, mesh sweater, gypsy skirt and scarf sash.
P.S. Sorry for the watermark, but I’ve had problems with people taking and altering my photos of models!
Red and White Colorblocked Dress, Outside Marc by Marc Jacobs
A colorblocked dress in red and white delivers a nice jolt of springtime color. Spring dresses are totally wearable right now if you layer them with tights and outerwear. The chunky gold necklace is the perfect finishing touch.
