Striped Dress, 10th Street, July 2020
All the cool kids are wearing sneakers with sundresses or shorts these days – a great way to beat the heat while moving about the city. Here are two breezy looks on 10th Street last week.
Jalel, West 125th Street
The one that got away: Jalel. This 13-year-old had such a cool denim-on-denim look when I stopped him on West 125th Street. I asked where he and his friend were going and he said “Wagner.” I was confused. Turns out he meant Wagner Houses, a.k.a. the projects in East Harlem. He wanted to be a rapper and was already writing songs on his phone and recording them in a studio. Jalel was pretty elusive though: he left a wrong number and no last name, so we could never get in touch with him. His photo never ran in the paper, but I’ll run it here.

NYT Kids: Street Style
As mentioned yesterday on Instagram, I photographed and interviewed a bunch of kids for the New York Times Kids section over a period of several months in New York City. So cool to see the spread in the Sunday paper! Thanks to my editors and all the kids and parents who participated.
Mommy and Me: Sara Blomqvist and Beau at Dries Van Noten SS2019
After the Dries Van Noten show, model Sara Blomqvist dashed out while still in runway makeup and picked up a little something: her son Beau. We photographers especially love the Dries show because he brings back his favorite model muses year after year.
