Looking forward to seeing the familiar faces of NY Fashion Week. Check back for the latest updates from the Fall/Winter 2013 shows at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week – which starts at the Lincoln Center tents this morning!
Malandrino
Though her latest designs aren’t even on shelves yet, there was an interesting interplay between Catherine Malandrino‘s Fall Winter 2010 collection and what the fashionable guests wore to the presentation last week. Leopard, fur and leather were just as present on the models as they were outside the show.

3.1 Phillip Lim Show SS10 – Front Row
The fashion set broke out yet another round of fabulous outfits for day seven of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, where Phillip Lim showed in the tents. Set against a 007-esque mirrored backdrop, the collection featured sportswear in relaxed layers, gray with pops of red, and a trompe l’oeil pleated dress that was white walking in one direction, black walking back. The sequined party clothes were especially appealing.
A successful take on the ’80s look – very “Addicted to Love” meets Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface. Expect to see more PVC/leather skirts like this through the winter – and yes, tube skirts are back. (more…)
Marc by Marc Jacobs Show SS10
Though Marc by Marc Jacobs is an American brand, the clothes have this quirky chic that seems quintessentially Parisian – even more so now that Marc lives in Paris. Lynn Yaeger stood outside with one of her reporter colleagues, marveling at all the clothes going by. The show attracts a creative crowd that really sees fashion as a form of self-expression – including Yaeger herself.
Definitely one of Yaeger’s most fabulous outfits ever. Her sense of style is timeless – for instance, she’s been wearing oxfords, one of the big trends of the season, for years now, and the intarsia doggie detail on the corner of her sweater evoked the lions in the “Doctor Doolittle” theme of Anna Sui’s show – the show that would take place the day after this photo was taken. Diane von Furstenberg Show SS10 – Front Row!
We got a special look at the Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2010 front row, which was packed not just with the usual fashion crowd but with DVF pals and luminaries like Graydon Carter, propietor of the crazy-hot Monkey Bar and the Waverly Inn. When Carter and his friend Fran Lebowitz were asked if they could be photographed together, Lebowitz quipped, “Oh good. I’ll look young.”
They both have great taste in blazers.
Tons of celebs and fashion faves – Michelle Tractenberg, Peaches Geldof, Carine Roitfeld and more after the jump. (more…)
Fashion Week SS09: Marc by Marc Jacobs
There were lots of playful daytime looks among the ranks of people attending the Marc by Marc Jacobs show.
Her colorful necklaces were echoed by similar looks on the runway.
She wears black wayfarer-type sunglasses and a shorts suit; he wears a collegiate blazer with crest of arms.
White cotton dress for fall and a cardigan with skull detail.
Velvet bow tie.
A beautifully sophisticated look–black satin for day.
Joe Zee in a suit, Kate Lanphear in gray high-waisted trousers.
Purple is popping up everywhere now, but stick to a deep, royal purple like this one or you’ll look like a purple people eater.
An elegant suit gets a little edge from sexy sandals.
Black and white.
Ken Downing of Neiman Marcus in a skinny tie. Let’s assume he had nothing to do with that Dallas Cowboys “wow gift” in the Christmas Book.
These super skinny jeans are in, but they must be paired with booties or heels, not the flats of years past.
Fuchsia houndstooth dress.
Male models leaving the show.
THE SHOW
Marc by Marc Jacobs is another show to watch for very practical purposes–to see what we’ll all be wearing next spring. Here Jacobs took the mismatchy looks of the designer collection and translated them into pale neutral stripes, plaids, and tribal prints for his contemporary line. The hook? There’s always a little mischief in a Marc by Marc Jacobs line. In this case it was the ultra short swingy dresses and fanny packs as accessories.
Pale ecru colors offset with strands and strands of Caribbean-esque necklaces.
Full, high-waisted, belted shorts were a theme of the collection.
Note the washed-out denim, which should be everywhere come spring. Lace-up flat booties add a pop of color.
He takes a utility-belt approach to the fanny pack, actually making it look cool. You can attach several colorful purses to this one wide studded b
elt.
A cute one-shoulder jumpsuit that flirts with the idea of androgyny. Note the layered belts and accessories that characterized this collection.
Beautiful metallic trench for day.
Men’s looks included a lot of rumpled trenches and roomy colorful pants like these.

Fashion Week FS08: Milly and Michael Kors
Hoardes of fashionable people converged upon the Bryant Park Tents for the Milly and Michael Kors shows.
Beth Ostrosky with big purple bag.
Melania and the Donald leaving Michael Kors.
Blue tights and accessories.
Sweaters and blazers – seen at Marc by Marc Jacobs and already working its way into wear.
An interesting color combination of mustard and electric blue. And don’t forget the cute pompom hat.
Very Hedi Slimane.
Long on cardigans for men. Expect to see more and more of them.
A nice mix of textures – silk dress plus suede jacket plus leather belt and rocking boots.
A variety of neutrals adds up to a polished, sophisticated look.
The Michael Kors aesthetic.
This guy is always very dapper – and very tan.
Love this mix of the cherry red lips with the moss green shawl. And check out the seals on her coat. Very boarding school.
Jamee Gregory et al leaving Michael Kors.
Electric blue shoes and a high-waisted coat. She is wearing nude pantyhose, but because they are so, so sheer, they actually look good.
Purple sunglasses.
Combining a black-and-white Milly dress with a brown cardigan and black belt.
Kate Lanphear, Senior Fashion Editor at Elle, sticks to her black-on-black guns as the rest of the fashion world goes color. Why mess with your signature look?
A beautiful pattern.
Hint of spring. Floral dresses like this one will be everywhere.
Another floral dress, paired with a sweater to winterize it.
Hey bitches! It’s William Sledd of Ask a Gay Man! Love him! Spotted here with man bag.<
br />Neiman Marcus’ Ken Downing has been wearing impeccable suits all week.
Fashion Week SS08: Badgley Mischka
This is a crowd that takes fashion seriously. Guests in the front row of the Badgley Mischka show, including Ivana Trump, assiduously took notes on every passing look, sometimes sneaking in a digital photo or two.
Few designers can cater equally to Hollywood starlets and New York ladies-who-lunch, but Badgley Mischka turn out both impeccably cut suits and Oscar-worthy gowns. Theirs was an extensive spring line with a some real show stoppers in the mix.
Ivana Trump and beau Rossando Rubicondi, who passed the vintage Mercedes coupe on display and remarked in a thick Italian accent, “I love that car.”
