Simone Marchetti at Kenzo
Simone Marchetti, fashion editor of La Repubblica, is one of the best dressed men at fashion week and one we look forward to seeing every season. At the Kenzo show in Paris, he paired a Valentino camouflage jacket with white chinos and studded loafers which – ahem – are also available for women.
Men in Sunglasses, Outside Dior
Today marks the start of Pitti Uomo, a huge menswear trade and fashion show in Florence, and while alas I will not be there, this will be the week of men’s fashion. The men of fashion week are always so dapperly attired that when D. asks me what to wear to a fashion week party to “blend in,” I am at a total loss. This sort of attention to detail is not something that can be taken on lightly. Witness these two gentlemen outside the Dior show, the pants, jackets, shirts and scarves so beautifully coordinated, the shoes buffed to a high gloss, their retro shades a nod back to the ’20s. And at fashion week, this is “typical.”
Caroline Seiber at Theyskens’ Theory
One thing I have personally been obsessed with this past fall is sheer black stockings. Formerly relegated to the back of the drawer in favor of opaque tights, they’ve made a huge comeback. Always ahead of the curve, Caroline Seiber paired a gorgeous gray dress (gray – also very au courant) with sexy sheer black stockings at last February’s Theyskens’ Theory show.
Polka Dot Jeans, After Rochas
An abstract polka dot print takes basic jeans up a notch. This look may be casual, but it’s also luxurious thanks to the blue suede and shearling of her motorcycle jacket.
Burgundy Skirt and Khaki Jacket, Outside Rochas
The fashion crowd looked stylish even in bad weather outside the Rochas show, where the skies opened up just as everyone was arriving. One guest wore a khaki jacket embellished with lots of gold buttons and a pencil skirt in burgundy, a particular popular color this fall.
Pink and Black Polka Dots, Outside Gucci
Loved this ’50s-inspired look on a girl outside the Gucci show. Not only are polka dots big this season, but pink, usually a spring color, is showing up in surprising ways for fall.
Giovanna Battaglia at Stella McCartney
Giovanna Battaglia literally stopped traffic in a graphic black and white coat outside the Stella McCartney show. Bellissima!
Hanne Gaby at Kenzo
Model Hanne Gaby Odiele left the Kenzo show in two shades of green – mint and military. Loved how this outfit also played with bits of transparency with the transparent raincoat and bag.
Embellished Feather Jacket, Outside Rochas
Beautiful embellishments of feathers and beading make this jacket extra gorgeous. We’ve been seeing the most amazing detail in the clothes at Paris Fashion Week.
Brocade Coat, Outside Marni
Loved this beautiful purple brocade coat on a guest at the Marni show and how she paired it with lace leggings and a feathered scarf. Exquisite, luxurious detail.
Carlotta Oddi at Cavalli
Another new girl on the scene who’s been attracting a lot of attention because of her good looks and great style is Carlotta Oddi, assistant to Anna Dello Russo. On the last day of Milan Fashion Week, she wore a cool and relaxed jeans outfit to the Cavalli show. The distressed, bleached jeans show how many varieties there are now in denim. Love a hat like this for a rainy day. The studded bag is Valentino.
Ada Kokosar at Marni
Stylist Ada Kokosar has a super cool aesthetic: she always looks pulled together yet slightly bohemian. Here she is outside the Marni show in black and white. Note the double breasted coat – a tailoring style that has been showing up on a lot of men at Milan Fashion Week as well.
Beaded Jacket, Outside Theyskens’ Theory
One of the best things about seeing all this fashion up close at New York Fashion Week is seeing the detail on exquisite clothing, like the beading on this jacket outside Theyskens’ Theory.
Street Chic: Black Vintage Jacket and Sequin Shorts, Jazz Age Lawn Party
At this weekend’s Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor’s Island, there was a surprising crossover between 1920s looks and goth in several of the guests. Both aesthetics are related to Steampunk and involve a lot of attention to detail, vintage, and a love of costuming. The mashup was pretty brilliant on this young woman, who wore a black vintage jacket with her black sequin shorts and black hat, nicely contrasting with cherry-red lipstick. Very cool personal style.
Black and White Stripes, Madison Avenue
Mixing a Chanel-esque black and white striped jacket with black leather shorts creates a great hi-lo effect for summer weekdays. The YSL tote was a New York Fashion Week giveaway. I also became obsessed with her sunglasses and hunted them down online. Looks like they are Super Sunglasses in “Lucia,” available here.
