Joan Smalls at Chanel SS2014
As a lifelong cat lover, I couldn’t be happier that cats are totally In! Now that my own cat is so on-trend, I won’t have to trade him in for a teacup chihuahua like Paris Hilton – at least not until next season. Model Joan Smalls threw her hat into the Team Cat ring with a cute studded cat-ears headband after the Chanel show. She also wore an amazing Karl Lagerfeld cartoon tee – detail shot after the jump.

Alexandra Golovanoff at Iris van Herpen
The whole fashion world is mad for plaid. Outside the Iris van Herpen show in Paris, French fashion TV host Alexandra Golovanoff wore plaid pants and a plaid a jacket by Proenza Schouler. But this is one trend that everyone can get in: just take a plaid flannel and wrap it around your waist. Instant style.
Black and White Print Pants, Outside Rochas
Here are more of the new pants for you, looser, expertly tailored, and a little bit cropped in this case. Another development seen on the spring runways as well as the streets: playing with volume in the back of jackets and tops. Designers like Sacai have taken a cue from traditional Japanese garb and added an unexpected pouf to the back of jackets and tops, as on this one. Click through to see the jacket in profile. (more…)
White Dress and Chanel Jacket, Outside Chanel
Such a great summer-to-fall transitional outfit on a guest at the Chanel show. She tops a summery white minidress with a boucle Chanel jacket, black Chanel hat and adds black Chanel boots with a chain motif. The bag is Hermès. This is the luxury version of transitional, but you could also try the same mix with any non-Chanel items you have on hand.
Elina Halimi at Alberta Ferretti
The ever-stylish Elina Halimi of Kabuki Paris swished by the Alberta Ferretti show in Milan in a red and blue striped Dries van Noten skirt with fringe, beaded sweatshirt, gold booties and a motorcycle jacket.
Ursina Gysi at Issey Miyake
Ursina Gysi looked super cool in a black maxi skirt paired with a black pleated biker jacket with a burgundy trim at the collar at the Issey Miyake show.
Simone Marchetti at Armani
La Repubblica‘s Simone Marchetti is one of the most dapper men on the European fashion scene. Camouflage has been a continuing motif for him, now updated in a pixelated houndtooth print version in this jacket, which I think is Valentino.
P.S. He is really fun to follow on Instagram if you want an inside look at the fashion world and, when he’s off duty, la dolce vita.
Zhanna Romashka at Etro
Zhanna Romashka made a splash at Etro with a great mix of a yellow polka dot Miu Miu skirt, vintage jacket and Paula Cademartori bag. Detail shot of the jacket and bag, after the jump. (more…)
Valentina Siragusa at Gucci
Valentina Siragusa of Factory Blog wore an oversize purple silk blazer at the Gucci show yesterday. Look for more silhouettes like this in coats and blazers for fall 2013.
Joan Smalls at Gucci
One supposed “rule” of the new over-the-ankle boots is that you can’t wear them with miniskirts. Well guess what: If you have legs like Joan Smalls, you can wear them with anything. The top model exited the Gucci show in all black, including a skater skirt and sheer mesh top.
Gray and White, Outside Gucci
Welcome to Milan fashion week! First show: Gucci. We’ve seen a lot of black and white on the streets this season but not a lot of gray, which may be why this elegant and sporty look in gray and white seemed like such a breath of fresh air. Also note the boots – just above the ankle is the way to go for fall.
Aimee Song at BCBG
Aimee Song of Song of Style wore a combination of graphic black and white grid prints that looked cool and crisp on the first day of New York fashion week. The red clutch is Celine.
Elisa Nalin at Fendi
Certain colors seem to resonate at certain times, and right now it’s green. Elisa Nalin was already rocking it last September at the Fendi show, with a green silk top under a windowpane check blazer and a sparkly green bag for a look that’s cool and summery yet pulled together.
This outfit also shows the increasing importance of menswear in the fashion category: for one thing, it’s really influencing womenswear.
