Goth Look, Outside Gareth Pugh
Happy Halloween, the Goth-iest holiday of them all! This was an amazing look outside the Gareth Pugh show in Paris. Close up of her spiderweb cape, after the jump.
Throwback Thursday: Amanda Murphy in the Paris Metro
One day during Paris fall/winter 2013 fashion week last February, some photographer friends and I got on the metro to go to the next show and saw the most beautiful girl just sitting there. She was obviously a model, but none of us had laid eyes upon her before. When we introduced ourselves, she said she had only been in one show so far: Prada, which had an exclusive arrangement with her to open and close that show.
That was Amanda Murphy, and in a mere seven months she has become one of the top 20 models in the world, appearing in Prada print ads and numerous runway shows this past fashion week. I don’t know if she still takes the metro anymore, but we’ll be looking for her.
White Dress and Chanel Jacket, Outside Chanel
Such a great summer-to-fall transitional outfit on a guest at the Chanel show. She tops a summery white minidress with a boucle Chanel jacket, black Chanel hat and adds black Chanel boots with a chain motif. The bag is Hermès. This is the luxury version of transitional, but you could also try the same mix with any non-Chanel items you have on hand.
Pharrell Williams at Comme des Garcons
I have to say I had no idea Pharrell Williams was so well dressed in “real life.” This is such a great mix of the patchwork coat, tee, necklaces, cuffed jeans, leopard print pony skin skater shoes, and just a glimpse of a black and white polka dot cardigan underneath. The fedora is not only elegant but perfect for a drizzly afternoon in Paris.
Chiara Ferragni at Ralph Lauren
Loved this cute strawberries and florals look on The Blonde Salad‘s Chiara Ferragni outside the Ralph Lauren show.
Erica Pelosini at DKNY
When in New York? Florentine Erica Pelosini dressed the part for New York fashion week, pairing a “New York” Topshop baseball jersey with a colorful red check Fausto Puglisi skirt and plaid hat at the DKNY show. The shoes are Valentino, the bag Chanel.
Susie Lau at Rodarte
A cute look on Susie Bubble at the Rodarte show, including a Eugenia Kim hat. Cat motifs are still popping up in accessories including Charlotte Olympia’s kitty flats.
Boater Hat and Maxi Dress at Ulyana Sergeenko Couture
This vintage-inspired look on a guest at Ulyana Sergeenko’s couture show would also be a great option for the Jazz Age Lawn Party, which returns to Governor’s Island this weekend. The boater hat gives the whole outfit such a classic romantic feel.
Sul Gi at Chanel Couture
Sul Gi, an aspiring designer who made quite an impression on Susie Bubble, wore this great vintage-inspired outfit to the Chanel Couture show.
Black and White Newsprint Skirt, Parisian Ball
Another cute look from this weekend’s Parisian Ball on Governor’s Island: this black and white outfit including a newsprint skirt. The hat and faux pearls are fun and hark back to that other big Governor’s Island event, the Jazz Age Lawn Party.
Pink Pantsuit, Outside Ulyana Sergeenko Couture
Again a pantsuit steals the show, this time outside of Ulyana Sergeenko Couture. Crystal costume jewelry necklaces are a fun way to dress up an outfit, especially for a masculin-feminin look.
Blue Suit and Brown Hat, Milan
Here’s more snappy dressing from a previous season in Milan: a perfectly tailored suit in cornflower blue looks great with a dark brown hat and orange briefcase.
Karl-Edwin Guerre at Dior
Menswear is becoming an increasingly big part of the retail market, and this week marks the start of men’s SS2014 fashion week with shows in London. Here are a few looks from the archives of great menswear on the streets. Photographer Karl-Edwin Guerre sported a great summer look of yellow madras pants, brown straw fedora, blue button down and matching blue oxfords outside the Dior show.
Michelle Elie in Comme des Garcons
In a world where there’s so much pressure for designers to take the commercial route, putting out season after season of “safe” clothes guaranteed to move at retail, Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons is an inspiration. Ruched, ruffled, or even dipped in paint, her creations are unusual and intricate. But the line has a cult following, as evidenced by the line that began forming at 3:30am this past weekend in NYC for a Comme des Garçons sale. Here Garage editor Michelle Elie wears Comme des Garcons at the Viktor & Rolf show in Paris.
Model Off Duty, Astor Place
Loved this punk-inspired look on a model off duty in Astor Place: all black, including black creeper shoes, except for the bit of irreverent fun that is the pink fluffy hat.
