Shala Monroque at Haider Ackermann
Another one for the archives for some FW fashion week inspiration: Shala Monroque at last winter’s Haider Ackermann show. Again another great combination of a formal coat, in this case camel, with a knit cap and the dog sweater peeking out subversively from beneath.
Fur Coat and Black Knit Cap, Fifth Avenue
A cool hi-lo combination. Not sure if the fur is real or faux, but the look is a nice mix of uptown and downtown aesthetics.
Ulyana Sergeenko at Marni
Russian designer Ulyana Sergeenko wore a floral dress and one of her distinctive hats to the Marni show in Milan.
Elena Perminova at Derek Lam
Tigers have become a key fashion trend since Kenzo made a tiger the center of their sold-out fall 2012 sweatshirts. Elena Perminova was ahead of the curve at last winter’s Derek Lam show, decked out in tiger prints and a cool urban aprés-ski look.
Jourdan Dunn, After Moschino
Such a chic look on model Jourdan Dunn after the Moschino show in Milan. Colorful denim is a key way to warm up winter staples like a black coat, and the wide brimmed hat is just great personal style.
Beanie Hat and Plaid Coat, Madison Avenue
Beanie hats with pom poms are the chapeau of choice this New York winter. On Madison Avenue, a woman paired hers with a belted plaid coat and high heel boots for the right mix of playful and professional.
Anya Ziourova at Derek Lam
One way to ward off the blues on a really cold day: a colorful fur coat, as seen on Anya Ziourova outside the Derek Lam show.
Cold, NYC
No matter what the weather, most New Yorkers are outdoors for long stretches every day, commuting to work or school. A biker in Soho wore a skeleton face mask to combat the cold.
Candice Lake at Derek Lam
Photographer Candice Lake lightened up a winter look with a shearling coat in pale green and cream. The bright floppy hat is the perfect topper.
Pom Pom Hat and Varsity Jacket at Yigal Azrouel
I’ve been seeing a lot of cute beanie pom pom hats on the street whenever the temperature drops below zero. They’re particularly cute with a varsity jacket.

Black and Yellow, Outside Victoria Beckham
Nothing brightens up a sea of blah black coats in January like a pop of neon color. This guest at the Victoria Beckham show accented her thick black coat with a sunny yellow hoodie and mirrored sunglasses, bringing a little Cali surf style to bear on a NY winter day.
Aymeline Valade at Jason Wu
When the thermometer drops down to the low 20s in New York, my mind goes back to the bitterly cold days outside St. John’s Center during last winter’s New York Fashion Week. And guess what? The next NY Fashion Week is just five weeks away, so it’s time to start brainstorming about what to wear now.
Model Aymeline Valade bundled up with panache outside the Jason Wu show with a wrap, Alexander Wang bag and warm hat for a look that’s cozy yet chic.
Ada Kokosar at Gucci
Stylist Ada Kokosar wore a pale peach No. 9 dress and black (faux?) fur jacket and matching hat to the Gucci show. The look is romantic and moody, though the sleek cut of the dress keeps it modern.
Cara Delavigne, Outside Missoni
This year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show was one of the most over-the-top in recent memory, with not just a $2.5 million diamond bra but performances by pop stars Justin Bieber and Rihanna, who looked so good on stage she could have been a Victoria’s Secret Angel herself. But I was especially enthralled with new girls like Karlie Kloss, Magdalena Frackowiak and Cara Delevingne, seen here in a signature quirky tomboy look after the Missoni show. So great to see these girls strutting their stuff for millions of viewers!
