Montauk Dining & Drinking
If you ever want to convince someone to like the Hamptons, take them to Montauk. Of course, they might claim that this fishing and surfing village is not actually a Hampton, since there are very few manicured lawns, polo players or designer boutiques in sight. But this naturally beautiful, windswept tip of Long Island could charm even the staunchest Hampton hater.
Once just the site of fish shacks and red sauce joints, Montauk has been luring serious diners out here ever since Sam Talbot took over at the Surf Lodge several years back, right after winning Top Chef. He has since moved on to Imperial No. 9, but Montauk’s culinary caché lingers on. For one thing, it would be hard for a seafood chef to be much closer to the source, since lobsters, clams, oyster and fish are hauled in to the docks here every day. Unlike tourist attractions like Mystic, this is still very much a working fishing village.

Flowy and feminine, in solid pastels, romantic florals or graphic prints, they’re a breeze to wear even in the hottest weather. Whereas dresses in this length can overwhelm non-models, long skirts look great on average-height women.

Spring Preview: Rebecca Minkoff SS2011
While it may be too early to start fantasizing about lightweight clothing, that hasn’t stopped us from drooling over spring accessories like Rebecca Minkoff’s spring 2011 collection, on view at the designer’s showroom last night. One of the most exciting developments is the amount of color in the late-spring arrivals: yellow sandals, bags in royal blue, hunter green, orange and turquoise. Even if you’re reluctant to do color head to toe, as on the Italian runways for spring, colorful accessories are easy to incorporate into any wardrobe.

As you probably know by now, punch is “in.” The trend gained ground in New York a couple years ago through cocktail experts like Phil Ward of Death & Co. and Julie Reiner of Clover Club, and now there’s an entire bar in Williamsburg dedicated to punch (and sailing), the Drink. Meanwhile, people unaware of the trendiness of punch are just trying to get rid of punch bowls accumulated during the time when everyone and their grandmother owned a punch bowl.
Given the laws of supply and demand, as Trendcentral points out, there are some great deals to be had on vintage punch bowls. Fall 2010 Trend: Fair Isle
It started last year with Pendleton Meets Opening Ceremony, the collaborative label that appeared on fashion-forward individuals around town. The pops of color and Navajo patterns were a welcome respite from the sea of black and gray clothing last winter. Now patterns have gone viral for fall 2010, the most popular being geometric fair isle patterns, a tongue in cheek reference to the checked and snowflake-patterned L.L. Bean sweaters of the ’80s. This new generation of fair isles takes on intricate patterns ranging from traditional nature themes to abstract cowls and skull patterns.
