How to Wear Summer Clothes Into Fall
Though fashion industry insiders may be known for spearheading the next new thing, they don’t change out their entire wardrobes as soon as Labor Day ends. In fact, they often wear summer favorites into fall – and use them to showcase new fall purchases.
Here are some tips from Paris Fashion Week for how to gracefully transition from summer to fall looks, as seen on guests and models at the shows.

The Amalfi Coast: What to Wear
The Amalfi Coast may be the beach, technically speaking, but a suitcase full of cut-offs and old T-shirts won’t get you very far here. Italians dress in a polished, pulled-together style at all times, and they’re very conscious of the quality of clothing and accessories. The gorgeous light here calls for saturated colors in lightweight materials – so say arrivederci to your urban jungle uniform.
CFDA Takeaway: Red Carpet Trends

14 Great Maxi Skirts
As we saw this past spring at during Fashion Week, maxi skirts are stealing the show for spring/summer 2011. Flowy and feminine, in solid pastels, romantic florals or graphic prints, they’re a breeze to wear even in the hottest weather. Whereas dresses in this length can overwhelm non-models, long skirts look great on average-height women.
These 14 maxi skirts range from $23 into the hundreds of dollars – though since this trend isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, it may be time to splurge.
Spring Preview: Rebecca Minkoff SS2011
While it may be too early to start fantasizing about lightweight clothing, that hasn’t stopped us from drooling over spring accessories like Rebecca Minkoff’s spring 2011 collection, on view at the designer’s showroom last night. One of the most exciting developments is the amount of color in the late-spring arrivals: yellow sandals, bags in royal blue, hunter green, orange and turquoise. Even if you’re reluctant to do color head to toe, as on the Italian runways for spring, colorful accessories are easy to incorporate into any wardrobe.
Here are a few favorite looks from the upcoming collection – and some items are already in stores. (more…)
Best Vintage Punch Bowls
As you probably know by now, punch is “in.” The trend gained ground in New York a couple years ago through cocktail experts like Phil Ward of Death & Co. and Julie Reiner of Clover Club, and now there’s an entire bar in Williamsburg dedicated to punch (and sailing), the Drink. Meanwhile, people unaware of the trendiness of punch are just trying to get rid of punch bowls accumulated during the time when everyone and their grandmother owned a punch bowl.
Given the laws of supply and demand, as Trendcentral points out, there are some great deals to be had on vintage punch bowls. We rounded up a few of the best for under $100 from Etsy and eBay for your buying and bidding pleasure. If you entertain, it is so easy to mix up a huge vat of cocktails like Phil Ward’s Mother’s Ruin Punch, Julie Reiner’s Sparkling Holiday Punch or David Wondrich’s adaptation of 1869’s Yale College Punch. The olds knew best: punch is a fun – and economical – way to get your drink on, anytime of year. (more…)

Fall 2010 Trend: Fair Isle
It started last year with Pendleton Meets Opening Ceremony, the collaborative label that appeared on fashion-forward individuals around town. The pops of color and Navajo patterns were a welcome respite from the sea of black and gray clothing last winter. Now patterns have gone viral for fall 2010, the most popular being geometric fair isle patterns, a tongue in cheek reference to the checked and snowflake-patterned L.L. Bean sweaters of the ’80s. This new generation of fair isles takes on intricate patterns ranging from traditional nature themes to abstract cowls and skull patterns.
For reformed preps, the trend is irresistible. Keep in mind that a closet full of monochromatic plain sweaters is going to feel excruciatingly boring by January, so add some jolts of pattern and color to your wardrobe with one or two of these 15 great fair isle sweaters. (more…)
