White with Black Polka Dots, Outside Viktor & Rolf
All white and polka dots: two themes that are very much of the moment for spring 2012. Love how she contrasts the black polka dot stockings with the white feathered skirt, sheer white blouse and white leather biker vest. The bright clutch and iPhone and red lipstick are the icing on the cake.

During fashion week we had no idea that Julia Sarr-Jamois, editor of Wonderland, was going to be modeling in two big spring campaigns, but the results for Tibi and Barneys are quite beautiful. Pet peeve: I hate black puffer jackets, even though I own one. This winter in New York it was black puffer jacket after black puffer jacket on the streets, with very little color in between. I stood out in the cold shivering for hours (admittedly, sometimes in my black puffer jacket), praying to photograph something, anything other than a black puffer jacket! But stylist Ursina Gysi shows how to take an ever-present trend and make it your own. The beautiful silver tone and athletic jacket collar make this puffer stand out from the crowd. With a white lace dress, saturated blue bag and graphic black and white booties, the whole look is refreshingly cool and unexpected.

Layers, layers, layers are the key to dressing for chilly spring weather, as Refinery 29 editor Christene Barberich demonstrates outside the Yigal Azrouel show. Another good idea is to swap out black for navy, a more upbeat neutral for spring. The graphic embroidered edge of her jacket and polka-dot socks keep it lively.

Fashion blogger Denni of Chic Muse posed for us on the tram tracks outside the Dolce & Gabbana show. This was a real fashion risk, mind you, because these are active tracks with huge trams running through every few minutes! Her Fausto Puglisi is also a fashion risk in all the right ways. Love the elaborate beading at the waist and the flared skirt. The bag is vintage Gucci, the shoes Prada.

Bright colors and kooky outfits may be catnip for street style photographers like me, but what do you wear if you want to look chic but professional for work? Lane Crawford’s Sarah Rutson sets the bar with her cool business attire. At Marni in Milan, she wore gray layers on top with a hint of pattern and embroidery at the sleeve, plus a luxe leather skirt with a slight teal sheen to it. Pulled together and gorgeous.

Elisa Nalin at Sonia Rykiel
Stylist Elisa Nalin wore so many fantastic outfits during Paris fashion week, but this one was one of my favorites. Love the mix of a leopard lapel with a springy green sweater and gold skirt – a great way to transition between seasons. Try her trick of layering a colorful collared shirt underneath a crew neck sweater for an instant wardrobe update.
