Ada Kokosar at Gucci
Stylist Ada Kokosar wore a pale peach No. 9 dress and black (faux?) fur jacket and matching hat to the Gucci show. The look is romantic and moody, though the sleek cut of the dress keeps it modern.
Bright Fur Vest, Outside Rochas
Before you wrap yourself up in a big black coat from now until March, consider the alternatives. Loved the bright colors on this guest at the Rochas show: aquamarine (faux?) fur vest set off by pops of magenta in her shoes, clutch and lipstick.
Candice Lake at Chanel
I loved the combination of colors and textures on Aussie photographer and blogger Candice Lake at Chanel. The Hockley London fur is a nice flash of cheerful yellow on an overcast day, and the black velvet skirt is the perfect counterpart. Plus: red lipstick is the way to go with a bright coat.
Girl With an Insect Pin, En Route to the Met Ball
An oversize insect pin conjured up the surrealist designs of Elsa Schiaparelli on this guest en route to the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala. A white silk dress and gray fur provide the perfect neutral but elegant backdrop.
Kate King at Alberta Ferretti
Model Kate King wore a sheer pale pink skirt exiting the Alberta Ferretti show. Love the color and the vintage-y style.
Kasia Struss and Ginta Lapina, After Louis Vuitton
Paris Fashion Week ended last week, but when I close my eyes images like these still linger: gorgeous women like Kasia and Ginta against the beautiful background of the Louvre. Ginta Lapina carries what was decidedly the It Bag of fashion week: the Celine trapeze bag.
JJ Martin at Hermes
This outfit is testament to the power of vintage. JJ Martin’s dress, belt and bag are all vintage yet so current-looking. The fur vest is Piazza Sempione, and the shoes are Balenciaga. A gorgeous look for an American in Paris.
Anna Wintour at Giorgio Armani
American Vogue was the most successful fashion magazine of 2011, increasing ad pages during a year when most magazines lost them. Because of its sheer size, it’s a big commitment to lug a copy of Vogue all the way from New York to Milan, but I did. Under Anna Wintour’s stewardship it’s still the thinking person’s fashion magazine, with wonderful essays and memoirs, not to mention Grace Coddington’s beautiful art direction.
The impeccably dressed Wintour is still the queen bee of fashion week. And street style photographers are overjoyed that, if she must travel with bodyguards, at least now they walk behind her. We can finally see what she’s wearing!
Linda Fargo at Etro
Here are some more bright pants for you, on Linda Fargo at Etro, mixed with a colorful fur scarf. They look so great in the spring light, especially now that the weather’s warming up in Milan. Though there are some skinny jeans in bright colors for spring, flared, tailored trousers in bright colors are particularly chic. The bag is Valentino.
Alek Wek in White Lace
Alek Wek, former model for Gucci, sat front row at the show yesterday in a gorgeous all-white outfit including a white lace dress.
Kate Lanphear at Alexander Wang
Here’s another look in all black: Kate Lanphear in a fur trim coat and Louboutin lace-up boots, after the Alexander Wang show. Though so many designers are moving towards color, especially for spring, all black will always be a thing in fashion. It’s just iconic, and Lanphear is one of the women who made it that way.
David Thielebeule and Treena Lombardo at Jason Wu
These two Allure editors are so stylish separately but even more stylish together. David Thielebeule and Treena Lombardo both wore expertly layered looks to yesterday’s Jason Wu show. Love all the texture on him and the play on proportions in her outfit.
White Pom Pom Hat and Fur Coat, Outside Costello Tagliapietro
Here’s another adorable look from Day One of NY Fashion Week, which makes me wonder: Is cute the new edgy? A knit pom pom hat adds a playful finish to a high-low look of fur coat, button down shirt and Givenchy bag.
Addendum: She is Violaine Bernard.
Monika Chiang FW 2012
There are new designers, and then there are new designers whose clothes are loved by models – and God bless you if you fall into the latter camp. Monika Chiang’s clothes are already a wardrobe staple for several Hollywood celebs – her first stores opened out in L.A. Now they’re a favorite of models like Elettra Wiedemann, who wore several of Chiang’s designs during a recent Refinery 29 photo shoot and at yesterday’s presentation in her official role as muse for the fall collection.
The fall collection was notable for its shoes, which ranged from flats to wildly studded high tops to death-defying stilettos made with a gilded metal spike. Jackets and vests made of fur, suede, wool felt and leather – or often a combination of two – were particularly luscious yet practical for city living. (more…)
Shala Monroque at Valentino
One of the most stylish women at fashion week, Shala Monroque made a splash at Valentino with bright yellow peeking out from under a coat with a fur collar – a great way to usher in the spring.
