In the Press: Street Style at the Governors Ball
In the press: a whole slideshow of photos I took for the New York Times Styles section for the Governors Ball. There were a few cool looks among the sea of jorts, notably this one on Jessica Louise Dye, who coordinated a bunch of balloons with her outfit. Fun and extremely practical for the friends trying to find each other at this huge music festival.
Gaucho Hat and Ivory Silk Dress, Coachella 2015
There’s nothing like spending a few days in the beautiful California desert to help you fast forward to summer. I just got back from Coachella, where I was shooting fashion for the New York Times Styles section Instagram – @nytimesfashion – check out the whole slideshow of Coachella style here. There were too many good looks to include them all though, so you’ll see more Coachella fashion on Gastro Chic! Like this sheer ivory silk dress worn as a bikini coverup with a gaucho hat, fringe bag and high tops.
Little Black Dress, Parisian Ball
Two Girls at the Parisian Ball, Governor’s Island
This summer has presented some real sartorial challenges when it comes to outdoor events in NYC. This Saturday’s new Parisian Ball on Governor’s Island, a big Bastille Day bash complete with vintage carnival rides, started out drizzly but hot for a long event that wouldn’t end til midnight. These two guests rose to the challenge with outdoor festival wear that’s practical but pretty – overalls paired with nautical stripes and a blue and red head wreath on the left and a blue and white print top with red and white earrings on the right.
Bonnaroo Street Chic: All Black
Here’s another citified look for the country: a black bikini, sheer black tank top, black lace skirt, black Coach bag and black Hunter wellies. It’s the Bonnaroo version of the little black dress.
Two Summer 2012 Trends: Denim Shorts and Head Wreaths
These two fashionable friends were wearing a couple of things that keep popping up everywhere for summer 2012: denim shorts, on the left, and a head wreath, on the right. Jean shorts aren’t just blue anymore but come in a wide array of colors, like these in burgundy, in neon colors, dip-dyed or even tie-dyed. And head wreaths are worth noting not just because of the festival circuit but for their appearance on fashion influencers like the Man Repeller and Giovanna Battaglia. (more…)
Bonnaroo Street Chic: White Tunic and Fanny Pack
Cute bikini cover-ups were a key part of getting dressed every day at Bonnaroo. This white cotton tunic with a lace edge is breezy and pretty on one of many guests who opted for a fanny pack instead of a handbag. The print socks and Keds add a little bit of quirk.
Bralet and Short Shorts, Bonnaroo
To beat the heat on the steamy first day of Bonnaroo, many guests wore not much at all. Better to opt for a cute bralet and short shorts like these, however, than just a bikini. It’s a way to keep cool but stay dressed.
Blue Polka Dot Dress, the Great Googa Mooga
Striped Tee and Denim Shorts, the Great Googa Mooga
Denim shorts were a popular sartorial choice at last weekend’s Great Googa Mooga festival in Prospect Park. The white flip flops and white wayfarers play off the graphic black and white stripes of her tee. Another important aspect of festival fashion? If you’re going to show those toes, make sure you have a rockin’ pedicure, like hers in electric blue.
Zigzag Maxi Dress, the Great Googa Mooga
Patterned, free floating maxi dresses are another good option for outdoor concerts. Here a vibrant zigzag maxi dress gets paired with a wide-brimmed black hat at the Great Googa Mooga – sophisticated but casual.
Shorts and Frye Boots, the Great Googa Mooga
Here’s another cool but practical look for outdoor concerts: denim shorts and mid-calf boots. There is no one right style of denim shorts this season. This slightly flared pair looks great with flat, rugged Frye boots, made for tromping around outside no matter what the weather. Also love how she styles it with a striped long sleeve tee and Ray Ban aviators – casual but cute.
Shredded Denim Shorts, the Great Googa Mooga
New Yorkers broke out their best festival wear for this weekend’s Great Googa Mooga food and music extravaganza in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. One guest wore totally shredded and destroyed denim shorts, mixing them with a black top and black and white shades. The outfit is not just cool but practical: a small cross body bag, boots, bedspread and wide brimmed hat make it easy to either dance or sit down and picnic.
