Emmanuelle Alt New Editor in Chief of French Vogue
French Vogue staffer Emmanuelle Alt has been named the new editor in chief of French Vogue, according to WWD. Condé Nast France chairman Xavier Romatet has said “not to expect any radical change at the title.” But the real question is: what will she wear in her new position? Alt is adored for her cool girl, casual style.
Let’s hope she won’t ditch the motorcycle jackets for head-to-toe Dior just yet!
Carine: A Style Retrospective
While we’re sure she must have something interesting up her sleeve, it’s devastating to see Carine Roitfeld leave French Vogue. In her position as EIC there, she attended dozens of fashion shows every season with grace and amazing style.
At Calvin Klein SS2010
Fortunately, she didn’t surround herself with bodyguards (note to Anna: photographers just want your picture, they’re not trying to kill you), so it was easy to observe her fabulous outfits, which were sexy, playful, ladylike and always paired with killer shoes and boots. Her creative approach and artist’s eye will be sorely missed in the front row.

Last Show: Louis Vuitton SS2011
Alas, it’s always sad when Fashion Week ends, so I’ve been delaying this post for weeks. But on the last day in Paris, the Louis Vuitton show capped off the week, and a number of interesting models, celebs and fashion people made the scene.
A model leaves the show in a dramatic black fur cape, long black skirt and black felt hat. (more…)
Alexander McQueen SS2011
This much-anticipated show was the first after Alexander McQueen’s tragic death last spring, with his friend and colleague Sarah Burton taking the reins. The show seemed to provoke a bittersweet reaction in some of the guests – you can see strains of the old McQueen in Burton’s designs, since she had been his collaborator for so long. The dark, Gothic sensibility is still there – particularly in this season’s ravishing Alexander McQueen boots designed by Burton – but the spring designs were deftly turned out by Burton’s lighter hand, giving McQueen fans hope for the future of the line.
Alexander McQueen boots are part of a smart new interpretation of evening wear: tuxedo jacket, frilled white blouse, a swingy jet bead necklace and skinny black jeans. (more…)
Chanel SS2011
Some of the most glamorous women in the world converged upon the Grand Palais in Paris last week for the huge, blockbuster Chanel show that won rave reviews. As ever with Karl Lagerfeld’s shows, many guests wore Chanel from head to toe in a show of support (that verges on adoration) of the French master designer.

Chloe SS2011
Chloe’s autumn/winter 2010 collection has already proved highly influential this fall with its wide-legged trousers and camel coats, so the spring/summer 2011 show was a must-see for many. The distinctive colors of Chloe’s fall line were on display on the guests in the Tuileries.

Viktor & Rolf SS2011
This show took place on a Saturday in the Tuileries. But as with Parisians themselves, who shop along the Rue St. Honore wearing the chicest coats and shoes, most of the guests did not relax their high style at all for the weekend.

Christian Dior SS2011
Apologies in advance for the number of photos from this show – 32 – but there was so much great fashion outside Dior! First we had many of the key players for Paris Fashion Week dressed to the nines, then a promenade of models leaving the show – several of them in black leather leggings, the garb of choice for models this fall. If you’ve got legs….
Carine Roitfeld with Mario Sorrenti. I love how she mixes this leopard coat with purple lace-up shoes – unexpected and fun. (more…)
Balmain SS2011
Before there were slim cut cargo pants on every retail floor on every corner, there were slim cut cargo pants on the runway at Balmain. This French label spearheaded the military chic trend that has resonated with consumers over the past few seasons. Slightly androgynous but always sexy, Christophe Decarnin’s designs have quite a following, as evidenced by the cool crowd outside the Le Grand Hotel.
A fabulously tough look. Note the camouflage – a pattern that appeared on several fashion-forward editors. (more…)
Ann Demeulemeester SS2011
No wonder this is such a chic city: Paris has the perfect fall weather for fashion. Though we may get some rain later this week (requiring yet more trenches), right now it’s cloudy and cool enough to require a jacket, some new boots, and of course, the artfully-draped scarf. At Ann Demeulemeester, guests gave this fall uniform a particularly avant garde spin.
Modern Gothic. (more…)
Oscar de la Renta SS2011
This season’s Oscar de la Renta show was particularly exciting – it took place during Brooklyn Tornado! You will see the sky get darker throughout these photos – that was not nightfall but the storm coming in. Fortunately we were on Park Avenue and avoided the actual tornado – but for some, it still meant running through a crazy thunderstorm while clad in Oscar de la Renta.
Just before the storm hit. Absolutely fascinated by this woman in chartreuse. (more…)
Calvin Klein SS2011
The Calvin Klein show makes for great people watching, but West 39th Street outside the studio gets really, really crowded. A narrow corridor forms with celebrities coming in on one side and boxes being wheeled out the service entrance on the other. At least it’s a reminder that it still takes a lot of elbow grease to run this show.
When the fashion shows move around town (and around the world), a flock of exotic birds follows them: the elaborately-attired invitees who land among regular civilians, then take off until the next season. (more…)
Marchesa SS2011
It’s bad enough that Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig are both drop dead gorgeous, but they’re also quite talented, turning out black tie dresses that have real artistic flair. Thankfully, they have upped the ante in red carpet dressing, so celebrities have no reason to take the boring route anymore. Some of their customers wore Marchesa to the show and looked dazzling doing it.

Michael Kors SS2011
This show always seems to take place on a beautiful sunny morning, whether it’s September or February. At 10am last Wednesday, a mix of socialites, editors and buyers arrived at Lincoln Center Plaza for Michael Kors’ spring 2011 show.
“Greige” jacket with amazing architectural folds. Sheath dresses that hit just below the knee are the outfit of choice for the ladies-who-lunch set this fall. (more…)
Sophie Theallet SS2011
Sophie Theallet, one of Michelle Obama’s favorite designers, turned out more of her signature feminine looks for spring, with Frida Kahlo as her muse.
Love this mix of fall colors. (more…)
