Red and White Colorblocked Dress, Outside Marc by Marc Jacobs
A colorblocked dress in red and white delivers a nice jolt of springtime color. Spring dresses are totally wearable right now if you layer them with tights and outerwear. The chunky gold necklace is the perfect finishing touch.
Anna Dello Russo at Rodarte
Anna Dello Russo wowed in a wild gold leather fringe jacket and black patent leather over-the-knee boots at the Rodarte show. (more…)
Brown Fedora and Foxtail Scarf, Rodarte
Creative layering for a frigid morning outside the Rodarte show: fedora, deconstructed abstract plaid jacket, black sheer skirt over tights and black and white knit scarf with foxtails.
White Dress and Coat, Outside Marc Jacobs
Grace Coddington at Donna Karan
Grace Coddington. It is always amazing to see her face to face like this – she still has such mesmerizing, powerful beauty. I think the scarf is Louis Vuitton.
Anna Wintour at Theyskens' Theory, Valentine's Day
Anna Wintour arrived at Olivier Theyskens’ first show for Theory exquisitely attired in shades of red – for Valentine’s Day? With a beautifully tailored burgundy jacket, garnet flocked velvet coat and fuchsia wool skirt, she looked like she stepped out of the pages of Vogue.
Multicolored Dress, Outside DVF
Love the mash-up of color and texture, also the juxtaposition of very modern-looking dress with a vintage handbag.
Bryanboy at Preen
The color of his pants (Jil Sander, I think?) isn’t exactly red – more of an ’80s neon, like something out of a Michael Mann set. Brilliantly over the top with a white fur vest.
Trend Report: Seeing Red
Red is a given around Valentine’s Day, but this year at NY Fashion Week the trend has been more pronounced. Vibrant, saturated cherry red is showing up everywhere, particularly in accessories. The color was also a major part of yesterday’s Diane von Furstenberg fall 2011 show, so don’t expect it to disappear come February 15th. (more…)
Emmanuelle Alt in the Snow, Prabal Gurung
Emmanuelle Alt made her fashion week debut as the new editor of French Vogue at Saturday’s Prabal Gurung show. An all-black palette and chic military double-breasted coat telegraphed all business to the crowd.
Yasmin Sewell at Prabal Gurung
Fashion consultant Yasmin Sewell stood out from the crowd in a powder blue coat with ruched silk at the sleeves, a skinny leather belt, candy orange lace skirt and gray suede wedges.
Long Floral Skirt and Turban, Prabal Gurung
Spotted after the Prabal Gurung show in front of the Empire Hotel, this girl has amazing personal style. A long silk floral skirt mixed with shearling booties, hoop earrings and a turban – red! velvet! affixed with a brooch! – it’s very outré, original bohemian chic.
Hilary Alexander at Prabal Gurung
The Telegraph’s famous fashion correspondent wore an beautifully embroidered Byzantine-style coat to Prabal Gurung’s show. With the fur hat and scarf and a black and crimson floral dress underneath, she conjures up turn-of-the-last-century Russia.
Charlotte Kemp Muhl Performs, Rebecca Minkoff
The bohemian life of Charlotte Kemp Muhl was the inspiration for Rebecca Minkoff’s fall 2011 show – and she and Sean Lennon put on a live performance before and during the show. Kemp Muhl wore a beautiful long silk dress in rust colored floral. The collection itself featured some great coats and jackets, a fab silk leopard jumpsuit, and of course, lots of yummy bags in saturated autumn colors like hunter green and eggplant.
Nautica Collection, AW 2011
Nautica’s fall 2011 collection was inspired by the Sleeping Bear Dunes region of Lake Michigan and showed a pitch-perfect eye for colors derived from boating. Pops of “safety orange” color should be popular next fall and winter; on the water, this is the exact color of the inflatable marks used in racing. I like the idea of taking the eye-catching quality of something so integral and practical and incorporating it into everyday clothing. The slate grays are also an excellent match for the pebbly Lake Michigan shoreline. (more…)
