Print Pantsuit, Outside Dries Van Noten FW2020
A look from Paris, February 2020. I am long on loud prints and colors for spring. Getting dressed to leave the house has taken on a sort of performative aspect since no one is dressing to go to the office anymore – so why follow the rules? Wear whatever you like, the wilder, the better.
Zebra Is the New Leopard
Among the many big question marks hanging over the fashion industry, which has been devastated by the closure of retail stores, order cancellations, layoffs and supply chain disruptions, not to mention actual Coronavirus cases among those in the industry, is the mystery of what we will all be wearing when infections subside and we finally emerge from our homes. An entire season of the fashion calendar, vanished. Will we pick up where we left off? Will we start again in a totally different place? And how will trends emerge without the visual cues we pick up from each other on the street?
There is a lot to be gleaned about what people are wearing from Instagram, Tik Tok and video conferencing. One thing’s for sure: an interesting print certainly stands out on Google hangouts, even if you only dress the top half of your body. Zebra was the print of the moment by the end of this fashion month, hedging out leopard for spring. File under: things that might have been trends. (more…)
Year of the Woman: Marie Beltrami, Paris 2018
Utility Wear: Kelela at Dries Van Noten SS2019
Practicality and comfort seem to be the order of the day in women’s clothing now. Singer-songwriter Kelela wore loose fitting silver pants and top, a utility belt bag and Margiela boots to the Dries Van Noten show.
Mommy and Me: Sara Blomqvist and Beau at Dries Van Noten SS2019
After the Dries Van Noten show, model Sara Blomqvist dashed out while still in runway makeup and picked up a little something: her son Beau. We photographers especially love the Dries show because he brings back his favorite model muses year after year.

Samantha Angelo at Chloe SS2016
New blogger Samantha Angelo of The Eye Travels turned heads this fashion week season with her statuesque beauty and flair for mixing different pieces. Outside the Chloe show in Paris, she belted a long Dries Van Noten coat, part trench and part duster, over an Acne dress with a pointed collar and Mary Jane-style Charlotte Olympia shoes. The military subtext to the outfit may especially work for another reason: she actually served in the Marines as a clarinetist in the United States Marine Band! Certainly a multi-talented player on the fashion scene.
Tilda Lindstam at Dries Van Noten FW2015
One thing we noticed at this past weekend’s Frieze Art Fair was the rising popularity of vintage clothing, especially among a younger generation of women who want to stand out without breaking the bank. After walking the Dries Van Noten show in Paris, model Tilda Lindstam mixed a vintage-looking mini dress (that wouldn’t be out of place on Mad Men) with a black leather biker jacket and black patent loafers.
Crisp Whites: Christine Centenera at Dries Van Noten FW2015
Nothing says “summertime” like a crisp all white outfit. Christine Centenera was elegantly turned out in an optic white tunic layered over a white shirt and white slit maxi skirt at the Dries Van Noten show.
Natasha Goldenberg at Dries van Noten FW2015
Loved this cool mix of textures and patterns on Natasha Goldenberg outside the Dries van Noten show in Paris.
Erica Pelosini at Dries van Noten FW2015
Miroslava Duma at Balmain SS2015
This coat by Dries van Noten looks like a winner for fall/winter 2014. Editor and trendsetter Miroslava Duma, who wore a silver and black one to the Ralph Lauren show, wore a second version in burgundy and blue stripes to the Balmain show in Paris.
Miroslava Duma at Ralph Lauren SS2015
A many-months-pregnant Miroslava Duma soldiered fashionably on through New York fashion week, wearing an amazing black and silver op art print coat by Dries van Noten to the Ralph Lauren show.
