Valentino Coat, Chanel Bag and Jeans, Outside Valentino
This is the kind of high-low mix that stylists and editors love: a très chic (and expensive) Valentino coat and Chanel matriochka bag worn with a down-to-earth pair of ripped boyfriend jeans. Even if you can’t throw on your best Valentino and Chanel, you can take a cue from this girl: this fall’s shredded boyfriend jeans are best worn cuffed with heels, especially if you’re petite.
Miroslava Duma at Hermes SS2014
Such a cute black and white rooster print coat on Miroslava Duma at Hermès. It’s by A.W.A.K.E., a new London-based label that was spotted on several tastemakers this past Paris fashion week. The bag is Hermès, the matching black and white spats Valentino.
Another styling note: how to wear fall’s voluminous coats if you’re petite like Miroslava? Cinch them with a belt.
Eva Chen at Sonia Rykiel
Eva Chen, new editor-in-chief at Lucky Magazine and the youngest editor-in-chief at Conde Nast, wore a fabulous Dries van Noten dragon-print coat to the Sonia Rykiel show in Paris. Dries, Dries, Dries: it’s often cited as a fashion insider’s favorite label, and no wonder. The reclusive designer sources gorgeous prints like this one from archives near and far and makes them into wearable works of art.
Pharrell Williams at Comme des Garcons
I have to say I had no idea Pharrell Williams was so well dressed in “real life.” This is such a great mix of the patchwork coat, tee, necklaces, cuffed jeans, leopard print pony skin skater shoes, and just a glimpse of a black and white polka dot cardigan underneath. The fedora is not only elegant but perfect for a drizzly afternoon in Paris.
Green Coat and Orange Wicker Bag, Outside Giambattista Valli
A lightweight green coat and orange wicker bag struck a nice balance of modern and vintage outside the Giambattista Valli couture show.
Anna Wintour at Valentino Couture
Anna Wintour wore a gorgeous moss green coat to yesterday’s Valentino show on a chilly summer evening in Paris. Earlier that day she was spotted having lunch at Voltaire with Nicolas Ghesquière. Look for more news about Ghesquière: Rumor has it that change is afoot at one of the major French fashion houses.
Michelle Elie in Comme des Garcons
In a world where there’s so much pressure for designers to take the commercial route, putting out season after season of “safe” clothes guaranteed to move at retail, Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons is an inspiration. Ruched, ruffled, or even dipped in paint, her creations are unusual and intricate. But the line has a cult following, as evidenced by the line that began forming at 3:30am this past weekend in NYC for a Comme des Garçons sale. Here Garage editor Michelle Elie wears Comme des Garcons at the Viktor & Rolf show in Paris.
Michelle Harper at DKNY
Michelle Harper wore this exquisite belted brocade coat to fend off wet weather at the DKNY show. The cat eye sunglasses and red lipstick are the icing on the cake.
Pink Coat and Flower Applique Skirt, Outside Chloe
I love this dusty pink color for this time of year, when the light has changed but it still feels too cold to be spring. A guest at the Chloe show wore a dusty pink coat, pink jacket, transparent white blouse and white flower applique skirt with a Chloe bag.
Saskia de Brauw at Stella McCartney
Model Saskia de Brauw has really distinctive personal style. Most of us could not pull off overalls, but she makes them look super chic. Here she exits the Stella McCartney show in Paris in overalls, a tweed coat, leather bag and rugged lace-up boots.
Sarah Rutson at Dries van Noten
After fashion week, there are certain outfits I keep coming back to in my mind when I am trying to get dressed myself. This is one of them, on Sarah Rutson outside the Dries van Noten show in Paris. She has styled it so expertly with the layered jackets (a great idea for this still-chilly time of year), navy polka dot blouse, pinstripe trousers, electric blue suede pumps and most importantly, that unexpected pop that comes from the bright Southwestern pattern on her belt. Perfection.
Red Stripe Pants at Haider Ackermann
More colorful colorblocked pants at Haider Ackermann. I love the saturated tomato red paired with a navy overcoat.
Natasha Goldenberg at Diane von Furstenberg
Natasha Goldenberg wore shades of winter white to the Diane von Furstenberg show in New York. Details of her shoes and shearling coat, after the jump. (more…)
Ece Sukan at Ralph Lauren
Beautiful spring colors – cream and pistachio green – on Turkish Vogue’s Ece Sukan at the Ralph Lauren show.
