Joan Smalls at Fendi FW2015
The inimitable Joan Smalls exited the Fendi show in a cool burgundy look, one of several we’ve seen on the streets recently.
How to Style It: Olivia Palermo at Nina Ricci SS2015
I love the color burgundy at this time of year. I also love warm turtleneck sweaters, but hate looking schlumpy. Of course, Olivia Palermo managed to style all these things to look quite chic. At the Nina Ricci show in Paris, she ignored the “rule” about not tucking your sweater into your skirt or pants and tucked her burgundy turtleneck sweater partway into a pencil skirt of the same color to emphasize the waistline. Then she topped it with a big statement necklace and added nude heels for a ladylike look. Brava.
Tina Leung at Balmain FW2014
A cool trench is a great way to brighten up a rainy day. Stylist Tina Leung of Tina Loves wore a colorful burgundy and blue wave print trench to the Balmain show in Paris.
Caroline Issa at Bottega Veneta
More burgundy and blue: Caroline Issa wore a burgundy and cobalt blue windowpane check suit to the Bottega Veneta show – it’s an unusual color combination that works beautifully. Also love the buckle shoes.
Colorblock Coat, Outside Derek Lam
Take a cue from Louis Vuitton‘s Nicholas Ghesquière and mix light blue and burgundy for a retro ’70s look that’s fresh for 2014.
Evelyn Song at Chloe
Fashion blogger Evelyn Song mixed a vintage blue leopard print jacket with burgundy check Zara pants and a crop top for a cool, swingy look outside the Chloe show.
Ursina Gysi at Issey Miyake
Ursina Gysi looked super cool in a black maxi skirt paired with a black pleated biker jacket with a burgundy trim at the collar at the Issey Miyake show.
Men in Sunglasses, Outside Dior
Today marks the start of Pitti Uomo, a huge menswear trade and fashion show in Florence, and while alas I will not be there, this will be the week of men’s fashion. The men of fashion week are always so dapperly attired that when D. asks me what to wear to a fashion week party to “blend in,” I am at a total loss. This sort of attention to detail is not something that can be taken on lightly. Witness these two gentlemen outside the Dior show, the pants, jackets, shirts and scarves so beautifully coordinated, the shoes buffed to a high gloss, their retro shades a nod back to the ’20s. And at fashion week, this is “typical.”
Janice Alida, Outside Fendi
Janice Alida is one of several models this past season – including Jessica Stam – to dye her hair dark brown. The look is striking and sleek, especially with a burgundy patent leather skirt.
Burgundy Skirt and Khaki Jacket, Outside Rochas
The fashion crowd looked stylish even in bad weather outside the Rochas show, where the skies opened up just as everyone was arriving. One guest wore a khaki jacket embellished with lots of gold buttons and a pencil skirt in burgundy, a particular popular color this fall.
Anya Ziourova in Balenciaga at Alberta Ferretti
Anya Ziourova wore a scarf-print Balenciaga top from the resort collection and Isabel Marant burgundy suede pants to yesterday’s Alberta Ferretti show. A beautiful, elegant but not-too-formal look for getting around Milan Fashion Week.
