Miroslava Duma at Missoni FW2014
Miroslava Duma wore more crisp white to the Missoni show in Milan, pairing a pinstriped white suit with an Hermes bag and bustier-style top. A great look to keep in mind for spring. Also love the cut of the trousers: wide legged and cropped – and very flattering.
Anja Rubik at Gucci FW2014
Here’s the first of our Milan Fashion Week photos – top model Anja Rubik looking stunning in black and white after walking the Gucci show. More to come soon!
Tina Leung at Carven
Gender-bending fashion is in the news, with Jared Leto’s man bun and Diane Keaton’s tuxedo turning heads at the Golden Globes. For women, donning menswear isn’t just for black tie or Pitti Uomo: it looks sharp on a variety of occasions, as on stylist Tina Leung at the Carven show in Paris. The suit is Ralph Lauren, the stilettos Valentino.
Blue Carreon at BCBG
One of my favorite guys to photograph, Blue Carreon, wore his signature blue to the BCBG show in a print blazer with white chinos and loafers.
Caroline de Maigret at Theyskens’ Theory
Chanel muse and model Caroline de Maigret exudes this sultry French chic that we American women can’t seem to master. Alas, maybe we could at least dress like her? At the Theyskens’ Theory show yesterday, she paired black waxed jeans with a beautiful silk herringbone blazer and heels. The bag is Chanel, bien sûr.
Another difference between the Americans and the French: they don’t waste time with blowouts, instead letting their hair look always a little bit mussed. Very sexy.
Tina Leung in Viktor & Rolf
Colorblocking has gone black and white for fall, with designers like Viktor & Rolf issuing dresses, pants and jackets in bold black and white sections. Tina Leung wore a suit by the designers on the day of their couture show in Paris.
Linen Blazer and Khakis, Outside Timo Weiland
Linen is key in hot weather, but an entire linen suit can be a wrinkly hassle. Instead this guest at NY fashion week mixed a cream colored linen blazer with pale chinos for the tone-on-tone look of a suit. To finish it off: a pocket square and green suede loafers worn without socks.
Elisa Nalin at Fendi
Certain colors seem to resonate at certain times, and right now it’s green. Elisa Nalin was already rocking it last September at the Fendi show, with a green silk top under a windowpane check blazer and a sparkly green bag for a look that’s cool and summery yet pulled together.
This outfit also shows the increasing importance of menswear in the fashion category: for one thing, it’s really influencing womenswear.
Summer Look, Outside J. Mendel
Love the infusion of color that hits menswear when the weather gets warmer. Here a guest at New York fashion week mixes a sharp blue gingham blazer with green jeans.
H&M Conscious Collection
Fast fashion: we all love it, but it comes at a price. As fun as it is to snap up new pieces from inexpensive fast fashion retailers just a few months after trends appear on the runway, those old trends have to go somewhere to die. H&M is the first major retailer to not only encourage customers to recycle used clothing with in-store drop boxes but to create a whole line of sustainable clothing, much of it made from recycled materials.
The second collection of H&M Conscious, a line of women’s and men’s clothing made of organic cotton, silk tencel, recycled polyester and tulle, debuted with parties across the U.S. last night, including their NYC flagship. Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley attended and posed gamely with fans who’d lined up for photos with him. Party and clothing photos, after the jump. (more…)
Joan Smalls at Fendi
Model Joan Smalls has always had super cool, understated personal style. She exited the Fendi show in plum-colored lipstick from the runway (look for more of this come fall 2013), matching fur scarf, knit hat, Givenchy clutch and Margiela blazer. Oh yeah – and there’s a Dracula movie in town whose posters made for a dramatic backdrop!
You’re on Camera, Milan
Major accessories: Gold snakeskin iPad cover, paisley scarf, bracelets, watch glasses and sunglasses – not to mention the video camera.
Justin O’Shea at Jil Sander
One of the best-dressed men on the fashion week scene has been My Theresa buyer Justin O’Shea. He often favors three-piece suits, but at the Jil Sander show, he wore one with a twist: this time the purple blazer matches the striped shirt.
Street Chic: Boating Blazer and Saddle Shoes, Jazz Age Lawn Party
This sporty outfit seen may look vintage, but it’s actually a mix of modern day Thom Browne, Ralph Lauren and J. Crew – and testament to how much the 1920s are currently influencing men’s fashion.
Preppy Look, Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic
Going away for the 4th of July? Depending on your destination, it may be time to brush up on your preppy fashion. At the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, this fellow photographer nailed it with a baby blue blazer, striped oxford, striped belt and loafers. The white jeans are a newer take on the preppy look, but in places like the Hamptons, they work.
