Taylor Tomasi Hill at Missoni
Anytime I see Marc Jacobs’ black and white stripes in all the spring magazines, I can’t help but think of this look on Taylor Tomasi Hill last February. Influencer!
Joanna Coles in Stella McCartney
Speaking of Cosmopolitan, here’s Cosmopolitan editor Joanna Coles in a cool black and white Stella McCartney sheath outside the Ralph Lauren show.
One Good Thing About January
One good thing about January: I have three pages of street style photos in the first Cosmopolitan magazine edited by Joanna Coles. The mag has a whole new look but sticks to Cosmo’s core message – fun, fearless females and, of course, sex. Lots of it.
So if you need an excuse to buy the January issue of Cosmopolitan – the one entitled “Epic Sex!” – or the February issue – “Crazy Hot Sex” – you’ll find my photos illustrating articles about girls on the street, musing about current events in “What’s On Your Mind” and sharing their beauty secrets in “Keeping It Real.” Fun!
Black and White Print Sweater, Madison Avenue
We are fully into sweater season now, but sweater dressing doesn’t have to be boring. Big graphic prints and fair isle patterns are showing up on the streets. On Madison Avenue, an oversize black, gray and white horse print sweater added graphic punch to a monochromatic outfit.
Street Chic: ByKenz Party at Catch Rooftop
Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Kenza Fourati celebrated the launch of her new website ByKenz with a party at the Catch rooftop earlier this week. It was a great opportunity to check out not just the website, which features beautiful fashion photography and portraits of inspiring women around the world, but a few super glamorous models off duty in their party clothes. (more…)
Leigh Lezark in Kenzo
Keep an eye out for the newly-reinvigorated brand Kenzo. Ever since Opening Ceremony’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim took the helm as creative directors last year, Kenzo has been gaining visibility in editorial and ad pages – and also in real life on fashion industry folk. We saw numerous Kenzo sweatshirts on the editors this past fashion week, and at the Viktor & Rolf show in the Tuileries, Leigh Lezark work an intricately pleated Kenzo dress that looked particularly beautiful in motion.
Black and White Coat, Outside Louis Vuitton
As painful as it may be to wrench yourself away from pretty fall weather, it’s time to start thinking about coats. Though most people seem to go for the most basic, utilitarian coats around, there really *will* be enough cold days in a New York City winter to wear an interesting patterned coat fairly often. This guest at Paris fashion week paired her black and white coat with an aubergine clutch by Louis Vuitton.
Ruby Jean Wilson, After Louis Vuitton
Texture Play, Outside Chanel
One way to keep winter clothes from getting boring is to seek out interesting textures. Love how this guest combined a black and white graphic popcorn sweater with a quilted A-line skirt at the Chanel show.
Marina Larroude at Carven
Sweater weather is upon us, and the options are even better this year than years past thanks to advances in technology. The same technique that allowed for elaborate prints on spring 2012 blouses and pants is now being applied to fall 2012 sweaters, resulting in cool patterns like this animal print on Marina Larroude’s sweater at the Paris Carven show.
Giovanna Battaglia at Stella McCartney
Giovanna Battaglia literally stopped traffic in a graphic black and white coat outside the Stella McCartney show. Bellissima!
Kate Davidson Hudson in Oscar de la Renta
ELLE accessories director Kate Davidson Hudson wore a beautiful Oscar de la Renta dress to the Just Cavalli show in Milan. I always appreciate it when Americans wear our own designers here to the European shows, because American designers are often woefully underrepresented in high-end shops in Paris and Milan, where French and Italian designers dominate. Gotta represent!
Ada Kokosar at Marni
Stylist Ada Kokosar has a super cool aesthetic: she always looks pulled together yet slightly bohemian. Here she is outside the Marni show in black and white. Note the double breasted coat – a tailoring style that has been showing up on a lot of men at Milan Fashion Week as well.
Polka Dots on a Bicycle, Outside Alberta Ferretti
I think there is probably some fashion manual going around that says: if you want to attract attention from street style photographers, arrive on a bicycle. It works! Especially if you happen to be wearing head-to-toe polka dots like this stylish woman at the Alberta Ferretti show. And again… black and white.
Black and White, Outside Gucci
Here’s more of my favorite transitional look of black and white, outside the Gucci show at Milan Fashion Week. Love the leather-paneled skirt.
