Gloomy Day in Paris, February 2020
Sorry, Emily in Paris, but this is what true French-girl style looks like. It may seem thrown together, but the styling is great – an oversized wool trench with the belt cinched just so, the carefully arranged cross body bag, and shiny thick-soled leather boots, perfect for walking through the city on a blustery day.
Fall Feels: Coco Rocha at Tod’s FW2020
Floral Feels, Outside Carolina Herrera FW2020
Trench Coat, Outside Michael Kors FW2020
April is definitely trench coat weather in NYC and environs. Here’s an excellent example of the form on a gloomy day outside the Michael Kors show. Leg of mutton sleeves like these have been going in and out of style since, oh, about the fifteenth century. They add a touch of whimsy and luxury to a wardrobe staple.
Spring Forward: Belted Coat, Outside Self-Portrait FW2020
A great look outside the Self-Portrait show in NYC. Belted coats are still going strong, and I’m really feeling this bright kelly green color for spring.
Wrapped Up: Linda Tol at NYFW February 2018
A great menswear-inspired look on Linda Tol at NYFW last February. This oversized silhouette has only gained traction since last year.
Winter Is Coming: Irina Shnitman and Ania Chiz at LFW SS2018
Two looks for when you don’t know which way the weather is turning, but know that it could turn bad at any minute.
Something Wild: Caroline Vreeland at Cushnie et Ochs SS2018
What goes with leopard? How about more leopard? Caroline Vreeland wore a leopard-print coat with leopard-print over-the-knee boots at the Cushnie et Ochs show. Over-the-knee boots were wildly popular this season among the fashion week crowd.
It’s a Cinch: Taylor Tomasi Hill at Delpozo FW2017
Taylor Tomasi Hill cinched a military jacket with a wide black belt at the Delpozo show in New York.
Etro Coat on Nausheen Shah at Carolina Herrera
Farewell, coats: One of my favorite coats of Fashion Month, an embroidered one by Etro, on Nausheen Shah at the Carolina Herrera show.
Red Belted Coat, Outside Carolina Herrera FW2016
A belted and embroidered red coat seen outside the Carolina Herrera show has a pretty, folklore-y appeal that’s perfect for the holidays.
Pajama Dressing: Bryanboy at Gucci FW2016
Gucci again made waves in the fashion industry by announcing they would show both menswear and womenswear with one show starting in 2017. (Let’s hope it falls during women’s fashion week.) Outside the fall 2016 show, Bryanboy sported Alessandro Michele’s boundary-pushing designs for the label. It may be pajama dressing, but it sure looks luxe.
Yasmin Sewell at Thakoon SS2016
It’s been a pleasure to see the always-smartly-dressed fashion consultant Yasmin Sewell around town this New York fashion week. At the Thakoon show yesterday, she mixed summer and fall with a lace maxi dress and straw boater tempered with a belted black blazer.
Mother Daughter Duo: Emmanuelle Alt and Francoise at Rodarte FW2015
Happy almost Mother’s Day! Vogue Paris editor Emmanuelle Alt took her equally stylish daughter to the Rodarte show in New York. Quelle mignonne!
Caroline Issa at Kenzo FW2015
It may not be warm enough to ditch that outer layer just yet, but at least we can switch from black to blue for a more springlike look, as Caroline Issa did with a belted coat at the Kenzo show in Paris.
