Plaid on Plaid: Robert Ferrell at Margiela FW2017
It’s really beginning to feel like fall in NYC, which makes me wish for all the rich colors and fabrics of the season. One for the New York Times and one of my favorite menswear looks from Paris – Robert Ferrell in a plaid overcoat with plaid bag. Love the combination of colors and patterns.
Details on Sofie Valkiers, NYFW SS2017
Loved this clever gilded cage bag as carried by Sofie Valkiers at New York fashion week.
White Jumpsuit, Outside Cushnie et Ochs SS2017
The welcome trend of wide-legged pants, which are so cool and breezy on hot summer days, does not seem to be going anywhere soon. A white silk jumpsuit with black accessories looks chic for the last days of summer.
Headscarf, Sweatshirt and Long Skirt, NYFW SS2017
Streetwear is making major inroads into high fashion – but within this development lies a major possibility for error. Unless you’re still actually in gym class, you probably don’t want to go for a head-to-toe streetwear look. Here is one way to wear the chunky, oversize sweatshirts that are already appearing in stores for fall. A guest at NY Fashion Week mixed hers with a long tiered skirt, heels, patent leather bag and a headscarf for a perfectly polished outfit that was also on trend.
DIY: Jamir Assad at NYFWM Day 3
One for the New York Times: Jamir Assad customized the classic utilitarian IKEA bag by sewing in zippers, panels and straps. You don’t need Balenciaga to do this!
Cross Training: Bag Outside the Menswear Shows
Cross body bags worn high across the chest were the way to carry your gear around at the menswear shows in NYC.
Something Wild: Damon Rasti at the BK Sunset Bash
Swedish journalist and social activist Damon Rasti mixed animal prints at NY Cult's BK sunset bash on the Williamsburg waterfront.
In the Pink: Pink YSL bag and Heels at the Met Museum Young Members Night
Nothing says “summer” like pink accessories – as seen at the Met Museum Young Members night in June.
Cleo Wade at the 2017 Whitney Gala
The stars align at this time of year, when glittery spring benefit parties intersect with longer daylight hours, allowing us to see some eveningwear trends on the street. At the Whitney Gala and Studio party last night, which raised $5.1M for the museum, artist Cleo Wade wore a long slouchy, long sleeved dress with chunky white heels. The covered-up trend continues, even in eveningwear.
Kate Davidson Hudson at Michael Kors FW2017
A cute nautical look on Kate Davidson Hudson at the Michael Kors show.
Collar Pop: Chloe Naylor-Leyland at 3.1 Phillip Lim FW2017
A cape with a trompe-l’oiel lapel makes a graphic statement on Chloe Naylor-Leyland at the 3.1 Phillip Lim show.
Spring Details: Floral Skirt and Snakeskin Print Boots at Lacoste FW2017
A mix of spring patterns was a nice harbinger of the warm weather to come.
Stylish in the Snow: Beverly Beal at Nicholas K FW2017
Cold Feet, Winter 2016
One notable trend to emerge last winter and this one is exposed ankles, no matter what the temperature. This photo was taken when the polar vortex bore down on New York fashion week last winter. Part of it is due to the conundrum of what to wear with cropped, wide cut jeans and pants, the new silhouette that is edging out skinny jeans. And part of it may just be plain old fashion masochism.
Monochromatic Look, Outside J. Crew FW2016
A dramatic and monochromatic look with an ombre coat, seen outside the J. Crew presentation last winter.
