Marina Muñoz, Outside 3.1 Phillip Lim

Stylist and street style darling Marina Muñoz arrived at the 3.1 Phillip Lim show in an adorable Western outfit, complete with kerchief tied at her neck and a wide brimmed outback hat. She has a real talent for picking out hats, which always give her outfits a jolt of individuality in a sea of fashionable people. This hat is a classic and a reference to her native Argentina. Full shot after the jump.  (more…)

Leather Shorts, Outside Carlos Miele

Every once in a while someone comes along who has that “It” quality. This young girl, a fashion blogger, drew crowds of street style photographers outside the Carlos Miele show. Hope we see more of her.  (more…)

Anna Dello Russo, Outside Prabal Gurung

Like many fashionable Italians, Anna Dello Russo appreciates exquisite detail. She arrived at the Prabal Gurung show in a bejeweled satin mini dress and gold Louis Vuitton bag. Very Anna! Her shoes, after the jump.  (more…)

Sarah Rutson in Short Shorts, Donna Karan Show

If you barely remember how to dress yourself in anything other than flip flops and shorts, it’s time for a refresher course before NY Fashion Week. Fortunately many of last September’s attendees were so ahead of the curve, their looks can easily be adopted for this fall.

And you don’t necessarily have to give up those shorts. Here, Lane Crawford’s Sarah Rutson wears short shorts with a long necklace, military green Proenza Schouler PS1 bag (always in fashion) and lace-up suede boots, dressing up a sporty chic outfit for the Donna Karan show.  (more…)

Leopard Top and Cut-Offs, Prince Street

As tweeted, I am so tired of seeing everyone in NYC in shorts and t-shirts. The outfit can easily be upgraded with a nice top like this leopard blouse, a nice bag and sheer black flats, with all the comfort of shorts. See? Not so hard.

High-Waisted Skirt, Houston Street

Another popular sartorial choice this summer has been the high-waisted, flowy mini skirt, here in salmon pink on Houston Street. It looks particularly feminine paired with a ruffled blouse.

Short Shorts Overalls, Union Square

One of the most interesting fashion stories this year is the huge trend that wasn’t: maxi skirts. Despite their appeal to the fashion set (including me, who featured them on this blog several times), on the streets they lost major ground to short shorts, a counter trend. One of my friends described her failed attempt at maxi skirts and dresses this way: “My husband hates long skirts.”

Is it the extreme heat or the avoidance of man repellent clothing that won out? Who knows, but the people have spoken. Short shorts like this cool outfit of black linen overalls and a backpack have become the uniform of summer 2011.

70s Jeans and PS1 Bag, Parsons Fashion Show

This outfit looks so sleek and classic you could almost forget it includes one of the trendier items of spring 2011, 70s wide legged, high-waisted jeans. In fact this is a great way to wear them: with design standards like Ray Ban Wayfarers, a white silk blouse and that other new classic: the Proenza Schouler PS1 bag in caramel leather.

Think Pink, Lincoln Center Plaza

Maybe it’s just because of Reese Witherspoon’s wedding dress, but the color pink seems to be on the brain for a lot of fashionable people these days. If you buy nothing else this season, let it be a brightly colored bag like this one – though the gorgeous ring and bracelet aren’t too shabby either.

Messenger Bag, Broadway

Messenger bags have come a long way since their Manhattan Portage days of the ’90s. Now available in a huge array of styles and at a variety of price points, they are an essential part of the modern male wardrobe.
