Opening Ceremony x Glamour Kitty Sweater, Outside BCBG
Welcome to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, aka New York Fashion Week! This adorable but chic kitty sweater was the centerpiece of one of my favorite outfits of Day One. It’s actually a collaboration between Glamour Magazine and Opening Ceremony, to be sold at Opening Ceremony on February 15th. Here it’s expertly mixed with a flowy white shirt dress, trench and bright red bag. As a cat person, I have been obsessed with it ever since OC previewed the design.
Michelle Harper at Theyskens' Theory
I’ve been looking through some old photos before next week’s NY Fashion Week and came across this one of Michelle Harper (with Tommy Ton in the background). Love how her look is a cross between super modern and old Hollywood glamour.
Winter Layers, Outside Donna Karan
This model off duty wore a layered look of skirt, sweater, coat and matching bag exiting the Donna Karan show. Just leaving a coat unbuttoned can make an outfit more interesting on milder winter days.
Virginia Smith in Classic Workwear
Amid all the fantastical outfits of Paris fashion week, it’s the classic work attire that provides the most useful inspiration. Virginia Smith wore an off-white silk button down and tailored trousers to the Lanvin show. The accessories – python print clutch and polished brown leather boots – are what makes it fashion.
Frida Gustavsson at Valentino
Such a great fall outfit on Frida Gustavsson outside Valentino. The casual, slouchy pink sweater and cuffed jeans are balanced out by an art deco statement necklace and suede pumps. The red envelope bag is Valentino, a gift to the models who walked the show. She may not have started out the day with a red bag and pink sweater, but the clashiness is kinda cool.
Seventies Look, Outside Carlos Miele
Personally I’m loving the ’70s look for this fall. The wide legged jeans (J Brand, I believe) and floppy wide brimmed hat are so Love Story, conjuring up a romanticized collegiate vibe of years past.
Label to Watch: Monika Chiang
At a press preview yesterday, we got a look at this new designer’s spring collection. Formerly focused just on accessories, Monika Chiang has branched out into sportswear, and the results are luxe and wearable.
Another reason to keep an eye on her: She’s opening not just one but two stand alone stores, one that just launched on Robertson Boulevard in LA, the other opening this spring on Prince Street in Soho. If this sounds like an unusually high capital expenditure for a new designer, keep in mind that she’s also the girlfriend of Chris Burch, ex-husband of Tory and powerhouse behind the rapidly expanding J. Christopher Capital LLC, the force behind several new stores opening in Nolita and Soho, including C. Wonder. (more…)
Hanne Gaby Odiele at Chloé
Hanne Gaby Odiele was definitely one of the best dressed models off duty this past Paris fashion week. Here she leaves the Chloé show in a laser cut brown leather top, zigzag cardigan and skinny leather pants. A great combination of color, textures and pattern.
Giovanna Battaglia at Lanvin
Stylist Giovanna Battaglia arrived at Lanvin in a two-tone saturated orange and brown dress tied at the hips. Loved the accessories too: envelope clutch, translucent orange framed glasses and gold choker.
Polka Dot Dress at Ann Demeulemeester
Of all the current and runway trends to emerge from fashion week, one thing was clear: the tough biker looks of years past have given way to a new ladylike aesthetic. This black and white polka dot dress with white Prada bag, pearls and Hollywood movie star sunglasses is a great example of the tailored, pretty new look.
Postscript: She is Shala Monroque of ShalasRabbitHole.com.
Black and White Print, Outside Issey Miyake
Loved the graphic print on this black and white top outside the Issey Miyake show. The maxi skirt with blue colorblocking, red striped belt and wooden bead necklaces take it up another notch. And! The metallic polka dot bag. A great look.
Black and White Look, Outside Costume National
Black and white has long been a popular sartorial choice in early fall, when it’s still too warm for lots of autumn color. This year the fashion set is interpreting it with a distinct menswear spin. Sharp, crisp lines evoke tuxedos and spats, but the cut is very modern and sleek. Even her shoes are black and white – detail after the jump.
Ulyana Sergeenko at Christian Dior
Russian designer Ulyana Sergeenko arrived at yesterday’s Christian Dior show in a sweeping black tulle gown. A dramatic entrance indeed! I also loved the vintage needlepoint clutch she carried. If you have a grandmother who liked to needlepoint, you may have one of these in your own fashion archives. Detail shot, after the jump. (more…)
Leopard Top and Blue Celine Bag, Outside 3.1 Phillip Lim
The fashion set is definitely cliquey when it comes to favoring certain brands. Last spring, a number of editors wore Prada’s stripes to the Paris shows. This fall, Céline handbags have been on the arms of many. For color trends, look for lots of this vivid blue – we’ll call it Bill Cunningham blue – a surprising and refreshing color for fall. And of course the rest of her outfit is equally brilliant – from the sheer leopard top to the two-tone sunglasses to the studded bracelets and black and gold nail polish.
