Plaid Coat, Madison Avenue
Thankfully, this year in NYC we’ve seen a move away from ubiquitous black puffer coats and towards more interesting colors and patterns, especially plaid. It isn’t just for fall anymore – it’s appearing throughout the winter. The bag is Balenciaga.
Fur Coat and Hermes Bag at Carolina Herrera
Don’t let the winter doldrums get you down: cold weather can also provide an excuse for a major fashion statement, as with this hooded fur jacket with leather sleeves on a guest at Carolina Herrera’s show. The bag is Hermès.
Joanna Coles in Stella McCartney
Speaking of Cosmopolitan, here’s Cosmopolitan editor Joanna Coles in a cool black and white Stella McCartney sheath outside the Ralph Lauren show.
One Good Thing About January
One good thing about January: I have three pages of street style photos in the first Cosmopolitan magazine edited by Joanna Coles. The mag has a whole new look but sticks to Cosmo’s core message – fun, fearless females and, of course, sex. Lots of it.
So if you need an excuse to buy the January issue of Cosmopolitan – the one entitled “Epic Sex!” – or the February issue – “Crazy Hot Sex” – you’ll find my photos illustrating articles about girls on the street, musing about current events in “What’s On Your Mind” and sharing their beauty secrets in “Keeping It Real.” Fun!
Aymeline Valade at Jason Wu
When the thermometer drops down to the low 20s in New York, my mind goes back to the bitterly cold days outside St. John’s Center during last winter’s New York Fashion Week. And guess what? The next NY Fashion Week is just five weeks away, so it’s time to start brainstorming about what to wear now.
Model Aymeline Valade bundled up with panache outside the Jason Wu show with a wrap, Alexander Wang bag and warm hat for a look that’s cozy yet chic.
Black Dress and Feather Collar, Outside Rochas
This black dress with lace sleeves and an exuberantly over-the-top gray feather collar layered with a big necklace should be a good inspiration for holiday party dressing. If there’s ever a time to go all out with fun accessories, it’s during the holidays.
Bright Fur Vest, Outside Rochas
Before you wrap yourself up in a big black coat from now until March, consider the alternatives. Loved the bright colors on this guest at the Rochas show: aquamarine (faux?) fur vest set off by pops of magenta in her shoes, clutch and lipstick.
Anna Dello Russo at Victoria Beckham
Belted Khaki Dress, Outside Prabal Gurung
Yellow Hermes Dress, After the Show
This girl works for Hermès, and she came out after the show in a brilliant yellow dress by the design house. The boots and bag are also Hermès. Love saturated color like this for autumn.
Black and White Coat, Outside Louis Vuitton
As painful as it may be to wrench yourself away from pretty fall weather, it’s time to start thinking about coats. Though most people seem to go for the most basic, utilitarian coats around, there really *will* be enough cold days in a New York City winter to wear an interesting patterned coat fairly often. This guest at Paris fashion week paired her black and white coat with an aubergine clutch by Louis Vuitton.
Texture Play, Outside Chanel
One way to keep winter clothes from getting boring is to seek out interesting textures. Love how this guest combined a black and white graphic popcorn sweater with a quilted A-line skirt at the Chanel show.
Ece Sukan at Viktor & Rolf
Vogue Turkey’s editor at large Ece Sukan mixed a white summer dress with a black turtleneck and snakeskin boots in one very cool outfit outside the Viktor & Rolf show.
Anna Dello Russo in Prada at Viktor & Rolf
There are designers, there are fashion shows and then there are the designers that fashion editors actually wear, and in that regard Prada has been a favorite for years now. Anna Dello Russo wore the bright orange pantsuit Prada runway look from the Fall 2012 collection to the Viktor & Rolf show in Paris. One look at this outfit tells you that pantsuits have definitely shed their dowdy image for fall 2012, reemerging as vibrant and fashion-forward.
Detail of her bag and shoes, after the jump. (more…)
Susie Lau at Chloe
Layering dresses over pants was a big trend on the runway for fall 2012, but few have been able to carry it off in real life as well as Susie Lau of Style Bubble. Outside the Chloe show she mixed prints in bright red and blue with a blue cardigan, two handbags and red Valentino shoes.
